Antibiotic Disruption of Vaginal Microbiota

When the resident vaginal microbiota is depleted—such as during antibiotic therapy—the vaginal pH increases. This reduction in acidity makes the vagina a more favorable environment for the opportunistic overgrowth of yeasts like Candida albicans.
