حمد و سپاس بی قیاس خداوندی را که اشراق آفتاب الوهیت او، در هر ذره صدهزار حکمت نصیب کرد که (وان من شیء الا و عندنا خزائنه و ما ننزله الا بقدر معلوم) ملکی که از یک ذرهٔ صنع او که بتافت در هر جزوی از اجزاء کاینات صد هزار عقل کل را به چار بالش بنشاند که (ان من شیء الا یسبح بحمده ولکن لاتفقهون تسبیحهم انه کان حلیما غفورا) قدوسی که صد هزار روح مقدس که در لشرگاه جنود مجنده سلاح صورت نپوشیده بودند از اوج علو ربانی به حضیض سفل عنصری فرو فرستاد که (لقد خلققنا الانسان فی احسن تقویم ثم رددناه اسفل سافلین) حکیمی که صد هزار جان مطهر که چون طوطیان سبز جامهٔ کرامت دارند ازدام دنیای دنی و قفس جسمانی به فضای ذروهٔ آشیان ربانی باز خواند که (یا ایتها النفس المطمئنة ارجعی الی ربک راضیة مرضیة) خالقی که از ازدواج کاف و نون صد هزار اشباح گوناگون از کتم عدم به صحرای وجود آورد که (اذا اراد شیئا ان یقول له کن فیکون) پروردگاری که چهار خصم متضاد را در هشت خانهٔ ترکیب آمیزش داد و به حد اعتدال رسانید تا به واسطهٔ نفس قدسی مستعد قبول معارف و حقایق اشیا توانست شد و به خصومت ظاهر گشت که (خلق الانسان من نطفة فاذا هو خصم مبین) پادشاهی که سفینهٔ دوازده هزار قائمهٔ عرش مجید را بر روی آب استاده روان کرد که (و کان عرشه علی الماء) مبدعی که قلع دوازدهٔ برج افلاک را به هفت کوتوال سپرد و خانه های ایشان را از دود کبود برآورد که (ثم استوی الی السماء و هی دخان) موجدی که جمشید خورشید را چون در معدل النهار فلک ملک نیمروز به کمال رسانید افول زوال بدان کمال متصل گردانید که (فلما افلت قال یا قوم انی بریء مما تشرکون). قهاری که کوس زرین آفتاب را از پشت پیل سفید روز در گردانیدو سپر زردش به خون شفق بیالود و در روش انداخت که (وجدها تغرب فی عین حمئة) صانعی که به دست صنعت بلال حبشی زنگی دل شب را داغ هلال بر جبین نهاد که (یسئلونک عن الاهلة قل هی مواقیت للناس). لطیفی که هر بامداد خلعت نورانی روز به دست صبح صادق در گردن شب ظلمانی افکند که (واللیل اذا عسعس والصبح اذا تنفس) قادری که صد هزار درست مغربی را از طبق زرین مشرقی بر سر عالمیان نثار کرد که (وجعلنا اللیل و النهار آیتین فمحونا آیة اللیل وجعلنا آیة النهار مبصرة) کریمی که از دریای بی نهایت رحمت دری یتیم و برگزیده چون محمد رسول الله صلی الله علیه و سلم به ساحل وجود آورد و گرسنگان علوی و سفلی و تشنگان مشرق و مغرب را به خوان انعام او بنشاند که (و ما ارسلناک الا رحمة للعالمین). خاتم انبیاء و خواجهٔ اولیا و زبدهٔ اتقیا و قدوهٔ اصفیا مقتداء صد هزار عالم و پیشواء بنین و بنات آدم رسول قرشی و نبی هاشمی علیه الصلوة و السلام و علی آله و اصحابه من بعده.</p>
<p>اما بعد، جماعتی از اصدقاء محرم و از اجباء همدم و قرینان دوربین وموافقان هم نشین که چون آفتاب دلی روشن داشتند و چون صبح صادق نفس از صدق می زدند و چون شمع از سر سوز می خندیدند چون آینه روی از صفا بدین ضعیف آورده التماس نمودند که چون سلطنت خسرونامه در عالم ظاهر گشت و اسرار اسرارنامه منتشر شد و زبان مرغان طیورنامه ناطقهٔ ارواح را به محل کشف رسید و سوز مصیبت مصیبت نامه از حد و غایت درگذشت و دیوان دیوان ساختن تمام داشته آمد و جواهر نامه و شرح القلب که هر دومنظوم بودند از سر سودا نامنظوم ماند که حرق و غسلی بدان راه یافت؛ رباعیاتی که در دیوان است بسیارست و ضبط آن دشوار و از زیور ترتیب عاطل و از خلاصهٔ ایجاز ذاهل اگرچه ترکیبی دارد ترتیبی ندارد و بسیاری از جویندگان از نصیب بی بهره می مانند و طالبان بی مقصود باز می گردند، اگر انتخابی کرده شود و اختیاری دست دهد ازنظم و ترتیب، نظام و زینت او بیفزاید و ازحسن ایجاز، رونق او زیاده گردد. پس بنابر حکم دواعی اخوان دین، رباعیاتی که گفته شده شش هزار بیت بود، قریب هزار بیت شسته شد که لایق این عالم نبود و بدان عالم فرستادیم که گفته اند: احفظ سرک ولو عن زرک. و ناشسته روی و غسل ناکرده بدان عالم نتوان رفت و از پنج هزار دیگر، که باقی ماند، این مقدار، که درین مجموعه است، اختیار کردیم بدین ترتیب و باقی در دیوان گذاشتیم. ومن طلب وجد وجد. و نام این مختارنامه نهادیم و گمان آنست، و این یقین است، که هیچ گوینده ای را مثل این مجموعی دست نداده که اگردست دادی هر آینه روی نمودی و این ابیات از سر کارافتادگی دست داده نه از سرکار ساختگی و از تکلف مبراست. چنانکه آمده است نوشته ایم، و در خون می گشته، اگر روزی واقعهٔ کار افتادگان دامن جانت بگیرد و شبی چند سر به گریبان تحیر فرو بری آن زمان بدانی که این بلبلان نازنین و این طوطیان شکر چین از کدام آشیان بریده
