Oocyst

An oocyst is a stage in the life cycle of certain protozoans, such as Eimeria, that is formed when gametes undergo syngamy (sexual reproduction). It begins as a developing oocyst, matures into a non-infectious unsporulated oocyst, and eventually becomes an infectious sporulated oocyst that releases sporocysts and sporozoites.
