Pathogenicity of Corynebacterium diphtheriae
Corynebacterium diphtheriae causes diphtheria by producing a potent diphtheria toxin. This toxin forms a thick, grayish pseudomembrane in the throat of infected patients, leading to tissue swelling, severe breathing difficulties, and other life-threatening symptoms if left untreated.
