Pseudomonas Classification Using Polyhydroxybutyrate and Fluorescent Pigments

Bacteria within the genus Pseudomonas can be classified based on whether they accumulate poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) storage granules and produce fluorescent pigments. For example, fluorescent species like Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pseudomonas syringae do not accumulate PHB granules, which distinguishes them from nonfluorescent species that do store PHB.
