Withdrawal and Retraction of COVID-19-Related Preprints
During the initial COVID-19 outbreak, researchers used preprint servers to circulate findings rapidly before traditional peer review. Some COVID-19 preprints containing incomplete, controversial, or false information were subsequently withdrawn, retracted, or removed, even after later papers had cited them. Continued reliance on such preprints can propagate unsupported claims and create scholarly and potential public-health risks.
