Sebum
Sebum is a lipid-rich secretion produced by the sebaceous glands within skin hair follicles. It consists primarily of triacylglycerols, wax esters, and the hydrocarbon squalene, serving as a protective barrier against moisture loss and as a nutrient source for skin microbiota.
