Trypanosoma brucei

Trypanosoma brucei is a parasitic protozoan that causes African trypanosomiasis (African sleeping sickness). It is transmitted to hosts via the bite of a tsetse fly (Glossina spp.) and subsequently colonizes the bloodstream and the brain, leading to symptoms such as confusion, sleep disturbances, and coordination loss, which are fatal if left untreated.
