Book Three - Section 126 - Explaining That Not Everyone is Fit to Draw Analogies, Especially in Divine Matters
Original content
English translation
How does it befit you to fabricate these analogies and hurl them toward that pure Threshold? The drawing of analogies belongs to that Presence whose knowledge of the hidden and the manifest is a divine Sign. What do you know of the secret of anything, that you would bring an analogy of the Whole — to a lock of hair or to a cheek? Moses saw it as a staff — yet it was not; it was a serpent, with its head parting its lips. Since such a King does not know the secret of a stick, what do you know of the secret of this trap and grain? Since Moses' eye erred in the analogy, how shall a mouse meddle its way in? That analogy of yours, it will turn into a dragon to tear you apart, limb by limb, in reply. This analogy was brought by Iblis the accursed, until he became cursed by God until the Day of Judgment. This analogy was brought by Qarun out of stubbornness, until he sank into the earth with throne and crown. Know this analogy of yours to be like crow and owl, by whom a hundred households were brought low.
