Bordetella pertussis

Bordetella pertussis is a bacterium belonging to the order Burkholderiales within the class Betaproteobacteria that causes pertussis (whooping cough). It produces several toxins that paralyze the movement of cilia in the human respiratory tract and directly damage respiratory cells, causing a severe cough.
