Education and Credentialing for Healthcare Managers
With the exception of nursing home administrators, healthcare managers are not legally required to hold a license. However, accrediting organizations like The Joint Commission require appropriate education and experience. Professional preparation includes undergraduate programs approved by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) and graduate programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). Additionally, managers can obtain certification as Fellows of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHEs).
