Employment Challenges and Lower Income for Women with Disabilities in China

Studies indicate that women with disabilities in China face greater employment challenges than their male counterparts. For women with disabilities, labor force participation is under 20%, which is significantly lower than the 26% participation rate for all people with disabilities. Gender greatly impacts employment status among people with disabilities, with only 35.63% of women with disabilities employed compared to 64.37% of men with disabilities. Furthermore, the average yearly income for women with disabilities in 2010 was about $507, which is 85.9% of the earnings of men with disabilities and only 28.5% of what women without disabilities earn.
