Mechanism of Enzyme Immunoassay

The mechanism of an enzyme immunoassay (EIA) involves conjugating a colorless enzyme tag to a detecting antibody. When the antibody binds to a target antigen (often immobilized on a membrane filter) and unbound antibodies are washed away, the enzyme interacts with an added colorless substrate to produce a colored end product.
