Mycobacterium leprae
Mycobacterium leprae is a pathogenic species in the genus Mycobacterium that causes Hansen's disease (leprosy). It is covered by a waxy mycolic acid coat and is noted for causing a chronic infection that affects peripheral nerves and the mucosal surface of the respiratory tract.
