Neglected Parasitic Infections

Neglected parasitic infections (NPIs) are five parasitic diseases—toxoplasmosis, Chagas disease, toxocariasis, cysticercosis, and trichomoniasis—officially prioritized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for public health intervention. The CDC selects these based on the severity of the illness, the number of infected individuals, and the viability of treatment or prevention, noting that many cases in the United States likely go undiagnosed due to low public awareness.
