Suppression versus acknowledgment of negative affect in third-wave CBT
Third-wave cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) distinguishes between ways of responding to negative affect. Suppression and avoidance are associated with greater behavioral harm, whereas noticing and acknowledging negative emotion can support better clinical trajectories, longer-term reductions in negative affect, and improved emotion regulation.
