متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

آن جهود سگ ببین چه راٰی کرد	پهلوی آتش بتی بر پای کرد
Look what scheme that dog-like Jew devised: he erected an idol beside the fire, saying that whoever prostrates to this idol is saved, and whoever does not will sit in the heart of the fire.
کانکه این بت را سجود آرد برست	ور نیارد در دل آتش نشست
Since he did not give this idol, his self, its deserved punishment, another idol was born from the idol of his self.
چون سزای این بت نفس او نداد	از بت نفسش بتی دیگر بزاد
The mother of idols is the idol of your self, for that outer idol is a snake and this inner idol is a dragon.
مادر بتها بت نفس شماست	زانک آن بت مار و این بت اژدهاست
The self is iron and stone, and the idol is a spark; that spark is put to rest by water.
آهن و سنگست نفس و بت شرار	آن شرار از آب می گیرد قرار
But when are stone and iron stilled by water?
سنگ و آهن زآب کی ساکن شود	آدمی با این دو کی ایمن بود
How can a human being be safe with those two?
بت سیاهابه ست در کوزه نهان	نفس مر آب سیه را چشمه دان
The idol is black water hidden in a jar; know the self as the spring of that black water.
آن بت منحوت چون سیل سیاه	نفس بتگر چشمه ای بر آب راه
That carved idol is like a black flood; the idol-making self is a spring along the watercourse.
صد سبو را بشکند یکپاره سنگ	و آب چشمه می زهاند بی درنگ
A single piece of stone may break a hundred jars, while the spring water gushes out without delay.
بت شکستن سهل باشد نیک سهل	سهل دیدن نفس را جهلست جهل
Idol-breaking is easy, very easy; to regard the self as easy is ignorance, sheer ignorance.
صورت نفس ار بجویی ای پسر	قصهٔ دوزخ بخوان با هفت در
If you seek the form of the self, O son, read the tale of Hell with seven gates.
هر نفس مکری و در هر مکر زان	غرقه صد فرعون با فرعونیان
In every breath there is a ruse, and in every ruse of that kind a hundred Pharaohs and their Pharaoh-like followers are drowned.
در خدای موسی و موسی گریز	آب ایمان را ز فرعونی مریز
Flee to the God of Moses and to Moses; do not pour away the water of faith through Pharaonic conduct.
دست را اندر احد و احمد بزن	ای برادر وا ره از بوجهل تن
Take hold of Ahad, the One, and Ahmad; O brother, free yourself from the Abu Jahl of the body.
