دفتر اول - بخش ۳۸ - به سخن آمدن طفل درمیان آتش و تحریض کردن خلق را در افتادن بآتش / Book One - Section 38 - The Child Speaking in the Midst of the Fire and Inciting the People to Fall into the Fire

متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

یک زنی با طفل آورد آن جهودپیش آن بت، آتش اندر شعله بود
That Jew brought a woman with her child;
Before that idol, the fire was in flames.
طفل ازو بستد در آتش در فکندزن بترسید و دل از ایمان بکند
He took the child from her and cast him into the fire;
The woman became terrified and withdrew her heart from faith.
خواست تا او سجده آرد پیش بتبانگ زد آن طفل "إني لم أمت"
She wanted to bow down before the idol,
When that child cried out, 'I am not dead!
اندر آ ای مادر اینجا من خوشمگرچه در صورت میان آتشم
Come in, oh mother, I am happy here,
Even though in appearance I am in the midst of fire.
چشم بندست آتش از بهر حجابرحمتست این سر برآورده ز جیب
The fire is a blindfold intended for concealment;
This is a mercy that has raised its head from the collar.
اندر آ مادر ببین برهان حقتا ببینی عشرت خاصان حق
Come in, mother, see the proof of God,
So that you may see the joy of God's chosen ones.
اندر آ و آب بین آتش مثالاز جهانی کآتش است آبش مثال
Come in and see water taking the form of fire,
From a world whose water takes the form of fire.
اندر آ اسرار ابراهیم بینکو در آتش یافت سرو و یاسمین
Come in and see the secrets of Abraham,
Who found cypress and jasmine in the fire.
مرگ می دیدم گه زادن ز توسخت خوفم بود افتادن ز تو
I saw death at the time of my birth from you;
I had a great fear of falling from you.
چون بزادم رستم از زندان تنگدر جهان خوش هوای خوب رنگ
When I was born, I escaped from the narrow prison,
Into a world of pleasant air and beautiful color.
من جهان را چون رحم دیدم کنونچون درین آتش بدیدم این سکون
Now I have seen the world to be like a womb,
Since I have seen this tranquility in this fire.
اندرین آتش بدیدم عالمیذره ذره اندرو عیسی دمی
In this fire I saw a world,
Every atom within it possessing the breath of Jesus.
نک جهان نیست شکل هست ذاتو آن جهان هست شکل بی ثبات
Behold, this world is non-existent in form but existent in essence,
While that world is existent in form but without permanence.
اندر آ مادر بحق مادریبین که این آذر ندارد آذری
Come in, mother, by the right of motherhood;
See that this fire has no burning quality.
اندر آ مادر که اقبال آمدستاندر آ مادر مده دولت ز دست
Come in, mother, for good fortune has come;
Come in, mother, do not let this prosperity slip from your hand.
قدرت آن سگ بدیدی اندر آتا ببینی قدرت و لطف خدا
You have seen the power of that dog; come in,
So that you may see the power and grace of God.
من ز رحمت می کشانم پای توکز طرب خود نیستم پروای تو
Out of mercy I am drawing your foot (inviting you),
For because of my own joy, I have no concern for you.
اندر آ و دیگران را هم بخوانکاندر آتش شاه بنهادست خوان
Come in and call others too,
For the King has laid a feast in the fire.
اندر آیید ای مسلمانان همهغیر عذب، دین عذابست آن همه
Come in, oh all you Muslims!
Other than the sweetness of religion, all else is torment.
اندر آیید ای همه پروانه واراندرین بهره که دارد صد بهار
Come in, all of you, like moths,
Into this portion which contains a hundred springs.'
بانگ می زد درمیان آن گروهپر همی شد جان خلقان از شکوه
He cried out in the midst of that group;
The souls of the people became filled with awe.
خلق خود را بعد از آن بی خویشتنمی فکندند اندر آتش مرد و زن
After that, the people, beside themselves,
Men and women threw themselves into the fire.
بی موکل بی کشش از عشق دوستزانک شیرین کردن هر تلخ ازوست
Without a guard, without being dragged, out of love for the Friend,
Because making every bitter thing sweet is from Him.
تا چنان شد کان عوانان خلق رامنع می کردند کآتش در میا
Until it reached such a point that those officers
Were forbidding the people, saying, 'Do not enter the fire!'
آن یهودی شد سیه رو و خجلشد پشیمان زین سبب بیماردل
That Jew became black-faced and ashamed;
He became regretful, and sick at heart for this reason.
کاندر ایمان خلق عاشق تر شدنددر فنای جسم صادق تر شدند
Because the people became more enamored in faith;
They became more sincere in the annihilation of the body.
مکر شیطان هم درو پیچید شکردیو هم خود را سیه رو دید شکر
Thank God that the devil's plot coiled back upon him;
Thank God that the demon saw his own face blackened as well.
آنچ می مالید در روی کسانجمع شد در چهرهٔ آن ناکس آن
What he was rubbing onto the faces of others
Gathered upon the face of that vile one.
آنک می درید جامهٔ خلق چستشد دریده آن او ایشان درست
He who was swiftly tearing the garments of the people,
His own garment was torn, while theirs remained whole.
