دفتر اول - بخش ۱۴۷ - نشاندن پادشاه صوفیان عارف را پیش روی خویش تا چشمشان بدیشان روشن شود / Book One - Section 147 - The King Seating the Gnostic Sufis Before Him So That His Eyes May Be Brightened by Them

Text and Translation

Kings had such a custom; you may have heard this, if you remember.
Their champions stand at their left hand, for the heart is on the left side; hold this in mind.
The overseers and men of the pen stand at the right hand, for the knowledge of writing and recording belongs to that right hand.
The Sufis are given a place in front, for they are mirrors of the soul and better than mirrors.
Their breasts have received many polishings through remembrance and contemplation, so that the mirror of the heart may receive a fresh, untouched image.
Whoever was born beautiful from the loins of innate nature must have a mirror placed before him.
A beautiful face loves the mirror; the polishing of the soul is the piety of hearts.
