Vibrio cholerae
Vibrio cholerae is a comma-shaped, gram-negative aquatic bacterium that thrives in highly alkaline environments. It produces a toxin that causes hypersecretion of electrolytes and water in the large intestine, leading to profuse watery diarrhea and severe dehydration.
