متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

آن دقوقی رحمة الله علیهگفت سافرت مدی فی خافقیه
That Daquqi, may God have mercy upon him,
said: I traveled far in the horizons of the world.
سال و مه رفتم سفر از عشق ماهبی خبر از راه حیران در اله
For months and years I journeyed out of love for the moon,
unaware of the road, bewildered in God.
پا برهنه می روی بر خار و سنگگفت من حیرانم و بی خویش و دنگ
'You walk barefoot over thorns and stones' —
he said: I am bewildered and beside myself, dazed.
تو مبین این پایها را بر زمینزانک بر دل می رود عاشق یقین
Do not look at these feet upon the ground,
for the lover truly travels upon the heart.
از ره و منزل ز کوتاه و درازدل چه داند کوست مست دل نواز
Of road and stage, of short and long,
what does the heart know? It is drunk with the heart's delight.
آن دراز و کوته اوصاف تنسترفتن ارواح دیگر رفتنست
The long and short are attributes of the body;
the journey of souls is a different journeying.
تو سفر کردی ز نطفه تا به عقلنه به گامی بود، نه منزل نه نقل
You have traveled from a drop of seed to reason —
not by steps, nor by stages, nor by moving.
سیر جان بی چون بود در دور و دیرجسم ما از جان بیاموزید سیر
The soul's journey is without quality, through far and near;
let our body learn journeying from the soul.
سیر جسمانه رها کرد او کنونمی رود بی چون نهان در شکل چون
Now it has abandoned bodily journeying
and travels qualitylessly, hidden within the form of quality.
گفت روزی می شدم مشتاق وارتا ببینم در بشر انوار یار
He said: One day I was going with longing
to see in human beings the lights of the Friend,
تا ببینم قلزمی در قطره ایآفتابی درج اندر ذره ای
to see an ocean within a drop,
a sun enclosed within a mote.
چون رسیدم سوی یک ساحل به گامبود بیگه گشته روز و وقت شام
When I arrived at a shore by foot,
the day had grown late and the time was evening.
