دفتر سوم - بخش ۱۵۵ - استدعاء آن مرد از موسی زبان بهایم با طیور / Book Three - Section 155 - That Man's Request to Moses for the Language of Beasts and Birds

متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

گفت موسی را یکی مرد جوانکه بیاموزم زبان جانوران
A young man said to Moses:
"Teach me the language of animals,
تا بود کز بانگ حیوانات و ددعبرتی حاصل کنم در دین خود
So that from the cries of beasts and wild creatures
I may gain a moral lesson in my religion.
چون زبان های بنی آدم همهدر پی آبست و نان و دمدمه
For the languages of the children of Adam are all
In pursuit of water, bread, and idle chatter.
بوک حیوانات را دردی دگرباشد از تدبیر هنگام گذر
Perhaps the animals possess a different sorrow,
From wisdom, at the time of passing."
گفت موسی رو گذر کن زین هوسکاین خطر دارد بسی در پیش و پس
Moses said: "Go, pass from this desire,
For this holds great danger before and behind.
عبرت و بیداری از یزدان طلبنه از کتاب و از مقال و حرف و لب
Seek lesson and awakening from Yazdan,
Not from book, discourse, letter, or lip."
گرم تر شد مرد زان منعش که کردگرم تر گردد همی از منع مرد
The man grew more ardent from the prohibition Moses imposed;
A man grows ever more ardent from prohibition.
گفت ای موسی چو نور تو بتافتهر چه چیزی بود چیزی از تو یافت
He said: "O Moses, since your light has shone,
Whatever thing there was has found something from you.
مر مرا محروم کردن زین مرادلایق لطفت نباشد ای جواد
To deprive me of this desire
Is not befitting your grace, O Generous One.
این زمان قایم مقام حق توییاس باشد گر مرا مانع شوی
At this time you stand in place of the Truth;
It would be despair if you were to obstruct me."
گفت موسی یا رب این مرد سلیمسخره کردستش مگر دیو رجیم
Moses said: "O Lord, this innocent man—
Has perhaps the accursed devil made a fool of him?
گر بیاموزم زیان کارش بودور نیاموزم دلش بد می شود
If I teach him, it will harm him;
If I do not teach him, his heart turns bad."
گفت ای موسی بیاموزش که مارد نکردیم از کرم هرگز دعا
God said: "O Moses, teach him, for We
Have never, out of grace, turned away a prayer."
گفت یا رب او پشیمانی خورددست خاید ، جامه ها را بر درد
Moses said: "O Lord, he will eat of regret,
He will bite his hand and tear his garments."
نیست قدرت هر کسی را سازوارعجز بهتر مایهٔ پرهیزکار
Power is not fitting for every person;
Helplessness is a better provision for the God-fearing.
فقر ازین رو فخر آمد جاودانکه به تقوی ماند دست نارسان
Poverty for this reason became an eternal glory:
That the hand which cannot reach remains in piety.
زان غنا و زان غنی مردود شدکه ز قدرت صبرها بدرود شد
That wealth and that wealthy man were rejected
Because patience bid farewell through power.
آدمی را عجز و فقر آمد اماناز بلای نفس پر حرص و غمان
For man, helplessness and poverty became a refuge
From the affliction of the self, full of greed and sorrows.
آن غم آمد ز آرزوهای فضولکه بدان خو کرده است آن صید غول
That sorrow came from superfluous desires
To which that prey of the ghoul has grown accustomed.
آرزوی گل بود گل خواره راگل شکر نگوارد آن بیچاره را
The desire of the clay-eater is for clay;
Rose-sugar cannot be digested by that poor wretch.
