دفتر سوم - بخش ۱۲۹ - جواب آن مثل کی منکران گفتند از رسالت خرگوش پیغام به پیل از ماه آسمان / Book Three - Section 129 - The Answer to the Parable Told by the Deniers Regarding the Hare's Messengership and Message to the Elephant from the Moon in the Sky

متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

سر آن خرگوش دان دیو فضولکه به پیش نفس تو آمد رسول
Know the secret of that hare as the meddlesome devil
Who came as a messenger before your nafs,
تا که نفس گول را محروم کردز آب حیوانی که از وی خضر خورد
So that it deprived the foolish nafs
Of the Water of Life from which Khidr drank.
بازگونه کرده‌ای معنیش راکفر گفتی مستعد شو نیش را
You have inverted its meaning —
You have spoken unbelief; make yourself ready for the sting.
اضطراب ماه گفتی در زلالکه بترسانید پیلان را شغال
You spoke of the moon's trembling in the clear water,
Saying that a jackal frightened the elephants.
قصهٔ خرگوش و پیل آری و آبخشیت پیلان ز مه در اضطراب
The story of the hare and the elephant — yes — and the water,
The elephants' fear at the moon trembling in agitation.
این چه ماند آخر ای کوران خامبا مهی که شد زبونش خاص و عام
What does this finally resemble, O raw blind ones,
With a moon before whom both elite and common are humbled?
چه مه و چه آفتاب و چه فلکچه عقول و چه نفوس و چه ملک
What moon, what sun, what celestial sphere,
What intellects, what souls, what angels?
آفتاب آفتاب آفتاباین چه می‌گویم مگر هستم بخواب
Sun, sun, sun —
What am I saying? Am I perhaps dreaming?
صد هزاران شهر را خشم شهانسرنگون کردست ای بد گم‌رهان
The wrath of kings has toppled
Hundreds of thousands of cities, O wicked lost ones.
کوه بر خود می‌شکافد صد شکافآفتابی از کسوفش در شغاف
The mountain cleaves itself with a hundred fissures —
A sun within its eclipse is concealed in the sheath.
خشم مردان خشک گرداند سحابخشم دلها کرد عالمها خراب
The wrath of holy men dries up the clouds;
The wrath of hearts has laid worlds to ruin.
بنگرید ای مردگان بی حنوطدر سیاستگاه شهرستان لوط
Look, O dead ones without burial spices,
At the place of punishment of the city of Lot.
پیل خود چه بود که سه مرغ پرانکوفتند آن پیلکان را استخوان
What indeed were the elephants, when three flying birds
Shattered the bones of those little elephants?
اضعف مرغان ابابیلست و اوپیل را بدرید و نپذیرد رفو
The weakest of birds is the ababeel, and yet it
Tore the elephant asunder and accepts no mending.
کیست کو نشنید آن طوفان نوحیا مصاف لشکر فرعون و روح
Who is there who has not heard of Noah's flood,
Or the encounter of Pharaoh's army with the Spirit?
روحشان بشکست و اندر آب ریختذره ذره آبشان بر می‌گسیخت
The Spirit shattered them and cast them into the water;
Particle by particle their waters were torn apart.
کیست کو نشنید احوال ثمودو آنک صرصر عادیان را می‌ربود
Who has not heard of the fate of Thamūd,
And of the ṣarṣar that was sweeping away the people of ʿĀd?
چشم باری در چنان پیلان گشاکه بدندی پیل‌کش اندر وغا
At least open your eyes to such elephants
Who were elephant-slayers in battle.
آنچنان پیلان و شاهان ظلومزیر خشم دل همیشه در رجوم
Such elephants and tyrannical kings
Are forever being stoned under the wrath of the heart.
تا ابد از ظلمتی در ظلمتیمی‌روند و نیست غوثی رحمتی
Forever from one darkness into another darkness
They go, and there is no succor, no mercy.
نام نیک و بد مگر نشنیده‌ایدجمله دیدند و شما نادیده‌اید
Have you not heard of good and evil repute?
All have seen these things, and you remain unseeing.
دیده را نادیده می‌آرید لیکچشمتان را وا گشاید مرگ نیک
You render the seen as unseen — but
Death will properly open your eyes.
گیر عالم پر بود خورشید و نورچون روی در ظلمتی مانند گور
Suppose the world were full of sun and light —
When you turn into a darkness like a grave,
بی نصیب آیی از آن نور عظیمبسته‌روزن باشی از ماه کریم
You will receive no share of that great light;
Your window will be shut from the generous moon.
تو درون چاه رفتستی ز کاخچه گنه دارد جهانهای فراخ
You have gone into the well from the palace —
What fault do the vast worlds bear?
جان که اندر وصف گرگی ماند اوچون ببیند روی یوسف را بگو
The soul that remains in the qualities of a wolf —
How shall it behold the face of Yūsuf? Tell me.
لحن داودی به سنگ و که رسیدگوش آن سنگین دلانش کم شنید
The Davidic melody reached the stone and the mountain,
Yet the ears of those stone-hearted ones seldom heard it.
آفرین بر عقل و بر انصاف بادهر زمان والله اعلم بالرشاد
Praise upon reason and upon justice at every moment —
Wa-llāhu aʿlamu bi-l-rashād.
صدقوا رسلا کراما یا سباصدقوا روحا سباها من سبا
Believe the noble messengers, O Sheba!
Believe the spirit which He who captivated it led captive.
صدقوهم هم شموس طالعهیومنوکم من مخازی القارعه
Believe them — they are rising suns;
They will secure you from the shames of al-Qāriʿa.
صدقوهم هم بدور زاهرهقبل ان یلقوکم بالساهره
Believe them — they are resplendent full moons,
Before they meet you upon al-Sāhira.
صدقوهم هم مصابیح الدجیاکرموهم هم مفاتیح الرجا
Believe them — they are lamps in the darkness;
Honor them — they are the keys of hope.
صدقوا من لیس یرجو خیرکملا تضلوا لا تصدوا غیرکم
Believe those who seek no benefit from you;
Do not go astray, do not lead others astray.
پارسی گوییم هین تازی بهلهندوی آن ترک باش ای آب و گل
Let us speak Persian — heed, leave Arabic;
Be the Hindu of that Turk, O water and clay.
هین گواهیهای شاهان بشنویدبگرویدند آسمانها بگروید
Heed! Hear the testimonies of the kings:
The heavens have believed — do you believe!
