متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

گفت پیغامبر علی را کای علی	شیر حقی پهلوان پردلی
The Prophet said to Ali, 'O Ali! You are the Lion of God, a courageous hero.
لیک بر شیری مکن هم اعتمید	اندر آ در سایهٔ نخل امید
But do not rely solely on your lion-like strength; come under the shadow of the Palm-tree of Hope.
اندر آ در سایهٔ آن عاقلی	کش نداند برد از ره ناقلی
Come under the shadow of that wise person whom no deceiver can lead astray.
ظل او اندر زمین چون کوه قاف	روح او سیمرغ بس عالی طواف
His shadow on earth is like Mount Qaf, and his spirit is the Simurgh circling exceedingly high.
گر بگویم تا قیامت نعت او	هیچ آن را مقطع و غایت مجو
Even if I sing his praises until the Day of Resurrection, do not seek any end or boundary to them.
در بشر روپوش کردست آفتاب	فهم کن والله اعلم بالصواب
The Sun has veiled itself in human form; understand this, and God knows best what is correct.
یا علی از جملهٔ طاعات راه	بر گزین تو سایهٔ خاص اله
O Ali, of all the acts of obedience on the path, choose the shadow of the chosen servant of God.
هر کسی در طاعتی بگریختند	خویشتن را مخلصی انگیختند
Everyone has taken refuge in some form of worship, seeking a means of salvation for themselves.
تو برو در سایهٔ عاقل گریز	تا رهی زان دشمن پنهان ستیز
You, go and take refuge in the shadow of the wise sage, so that you may escape from the secret, combative enemy.
از همه طاعات اینت بهترست	سبق یابی بر هر آن سابق که هست
Of all forms of devotion, this is best for you; by this, you will surpass everyone who has gone before.
چون گرفتت پیر هین تسلیم شو	همچو موسی زیر حکم خضر رو
When the spiritual guide (Pir) has accepted you, surrender immediately; go like Moses under the command of Khidr.
صبر کن بر کار خضری بی نفاق	تا نگوید خضر رو هذا فراق
Be patient with the deeds of Khidr without hypocrisy, lest Khidr say: 'Go, this is the parting between us.'
گرچه کشتی بشکند تو دم مزن	گرچه طفلی را کشد تو مو مکن
Though he breaks the boat, do not utter a breath; though he kills a youth, do not tear your hair.
دست او را حق چو دست خویش خواند	تا ید الله فوق ایدیهم براند
God has called his hand His own, declaring: 'The Hand of God is over their hands.'
دست حق میراندش زنده ش کند	زنده چه بود جان پاینده ش کند
The Hand of God directs him and gives him life; what is mere life? It makes him an everlasting soul.
هرکه تنها نادرا این ره برید	هم به عون همت پیران رسید
Whoever rarely traversed this path alone, did so through the aid and spiritual power of the Pirs.
دست پیر از غایبان کوتاه نیست	دست او جز قبضه الله نیست
The hand of the Pir is not shortened from those who are absent; his hand is nothing but the grasp of God.
غایبان را چون چنین خلعت دهند	حاضران از غایبان لا شک به اند
Since they bestow such robes of honor upon those who are absent, the present are undoubtedly better off than the absent.
غایبان را چون نواله می دهند	پیش مهمان تا چه نعمتها نهند
Since they give a morsel to those who are absent, what bounties must they place before the guest who is present!
کو کسی کو پیش شه بندد کمر	تا کسی کو هست بیرون سوی در
Where is the one who girds his loins in the presence of the King, compared to the one who remains outside the door?
چون گزیدی پیر نازک دل مباش	سست و ریزیده چو آب و گل مباش
Once you have chosen your Pir, do not be touchy; do not be weak and crumbly like water and clay.
ور بهر زخمی تو پر کینه شوی	پس کجا بی صیقل آیینه شوی
If you become filled with resentment at every wound, how then will you become a polished mirror?'
