Book Three - Section 162 - Moses Praying for That Person So That He May Depart from the World with Faith

Text and Translation

Moses came in supplication that dawn:
"O God, do not take, do not remove faith from him.
Be kingly, grant him pardon, for he
erred in oversight, brazenness, and excess."
I told him: "This knowledge is not befitting for you."
He took my words as dismissal and feeble.
The one who lays his hand upon the dragon
is he whose hand turns the staff into a dragon.
The secret of the Unseen befits to be learned
by one who can sew his lips shut from speaking.
None is fit for the sea save the water-bird.
Understand — and God knows best what is right.
He went to the sea and was no water-bird.
He drowned — take his hand, O Wadūd.
