دفتر دوم - بخش ۱۱۵ - حیران شدن حاجیان در کرامات آن زاهد کی در بادیه تنهاش یافتند / Book Two - Section 115 - The Bewilderment of the Pilgrims at the Miracles of That Ascetic Whom They Found Alone in the Desert

متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

زاهدی بد در میان بادیهدر عبادت غرق چون عبادیه
There was an ascetic in the middle of the desert, immersed in worship like the ʿAbādiyya.
حاجیان آنجا رسیدند از بلاددیده شان بر زاهد خشک اوفتاد
Pilgrims arrived there from many lands; their eyes fell on that dry ascetic.
جای زاهد خشک بود او ترمزاجاز سموم بادیه بودش علاج
The ascetic's place was dry, but he was moist-tempered; the desert's scorching simoom served as his remedy.
حاجیان حیران شدند از وحدتشو آن سلامت در میان آفتش
The pilgrims were bewildered by his solitude and by his safety amid that danger.
در نماز استاده بد بر روی ریگریگ کز تفش بجوشد آب دیگ
He was standing in prayer upon sand, sand whose heat would make a pot of water boil.
گفتیی سرمست در سبزه و گلستیا سواره بر براق و دلدلست
You would have said he was drunk amid grass and flowers, or riding on Burāq and Duldul, or that his feet were on silk and robes of honor, or that the simoom was better to him than the morning breeze.
یا که پایش بر حریر و حله هاستیا سموم او را به از باد صباست
So that group remained there in needful humility until the dervish finished his prayer.
پس بماندند آن جماعت با نیازتا شود درویش فارغ از نماز
When the poor man came back from absorption, that living, bright-hearted one from the assembly, they saw water dripping from his hands and face; his garment was wet from the traces of ablution.
چون ز استغراق باز آمد فقیرزان جماعت زندهٔ روشن ضمیر
They asked him, "Where is your water from?"
دید کآبش می چکید از دست و روجامه اش تر بود از آثار وضو
He raised his hand: "From the direction of heaven."
پس بپرسیدش که آبت از کجاستدست را بر داشت کز سوی سماست
He said, "Whenever you wish, it arrives, without a well and without a rope of palm fiber."
گفت هر گاهی که خواهی می رسدبی ز چاه و بی ز حبل من مسد
"Solve our difficulty, O sultan of religion, so that your state may grant us certainty.
مشکل ما حل کن ای سلطان دینتا ببخشد حال تو ما را یقین
Reveal to us one secret from your secrets, so that we may cut the zunnars from our waists."
وا نما سری ز اسرارت بماتا ببریم از میان زنارها
He opened his eyes toward heaven, saying, "Answer the pilgrims' prayer.
چشم را بگشود سوی آسمانکه اجابت کن دعای حاجیان
I am accustomed to seek provision from above; You have opened my door from above.
رزق جویی را ز بالا خوگرمتو ز بالا بر گشودستی درم
O You who have shown place from placelessness, You have made plain, 'In heaven is your provision.'"
ای نموده تو مکان از لامکانفی السماء رزقکم کرده عیان
In the midst of this intimate prayer, a pleasant cloud quickly appeared like a water-drawing elephant.
در میان این مناجات ابر خوشزود پیدا شد چو پیل آب کش
It began to rain as water pours from a waterskin; it settled in hollows and caves.
همچو آب از مشک باریدن گرفتدر گو و در غارها مسکن گرفت
The cloud rained like waterskins of tears, and all the pilgrims opened their waterskins.
ابر می بارید چون مشک اشکهاحاجیان جمله گشاده مشکها
One group, because of those wondrous deeds, cut the zunnars from their waists.
یک جماعت زان عجایب کارهامی بریدند از میان زنارها
Another group's certainty increased through this marvel; God knows best the right guidance.
قوم دیگر را یقین در ازدیادزین عجب والله اعلم بالرشاد
Another group remained unaccepting, sour, and raw: the eternally deficient.
قوم دیگر ناپذیرا ترش و خامناقصان سرمدی تم الکلام
