متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

چونک تنهااش بدید آن ساده مردزود او قصد کنار و بوسه کرد
When that simple man found him alone,
He quickly intended an embrace and a kiss.
بانگ بر وی زد به هیبت آن نگارکه مرو گستاخ ادب را هوش دار
The beloved cried out at him with awe:
"Do not be so bold — be mindful of decorum."
گفت آخر خلوتست و خلق نیآب حاضر تشنهٔ هم چون منی
He said, "But it is solitude, and no people are here;
Water is present, and a thirsty one like me.
کس نمی جنبد درینجا جز که بادکیست حاضر کیست مانع زین گشاد
No one stirs here except the wind;
Who is present? Who can hinder this opening?"
گفت ای شیدا تو ابله بوده ایابلهی وز عاقلان نشنوده ای
The beloved said, "O madly enamored one, you have been a fool;
You are foolish, and you have not listened to the wise.
باد را دیدی که می جنبد بدانبادجنبانیست اینجا بادران
You saw the wind moving — know this:
There is a wind-mover here, a wind-driver.
جزو بادی که به حکم ما درستبادبیزن تا نجنبانی نجست
A portion of wind established by our command —
A fan, unless you move it, does not stir.
جنبش این جزو باد ای ساده مردبی تو و بی بادبیزن سر نکرد
The movement of this portion of wind, O simple man,
Does not arise without you and without a fan.
جنبش باد نفس کاندر لبستتابع تصریف جان و قالبست
The movement of the wind of breath that is upon the lips
Is subject to the governance of soul and body.
گاه دم را مدح و پیغامی کنیگاه دم را هجو و دشنامی کنی
Sometimes you make your breath praise and a message;
Sometimes you make your breath satire and an insult.
پس بدان احوال دیگر بادهاکه ز جزوی کل می بیند نهی
So know the conditions of other winds,
For from a part, the discerning mind sees the whole.
باد را حق گه بهاری می کنددر دیش زین لطف عاری می کند
God sometimes makes the wind vernal,
And at another time strips it bare of this grace.
بر گروه عاد صرصر می کندباز بر هودش معطر می کند
Upon the people of ʿĀd He sends the ṣarṣar,
Then again He makes it fragrant for Hūd.
می کند یک باد را زهر سموممر صبا را می کند خرم قدوم
He makes one wind the poison of the samūm,
And makes the ṣabā a joyful arrival.
باد دم را بر تو بنهاد او اساستا کنی هر باد را بر وی قیاس
He has established the wind of breath as a foundation for you,
So that you may measure every wind by analogy to it.
دم نمی گردد سخن بی لطف و قهربر گروهی شهد و بر قومیست زهر
Breath does not become speech without grace and wrath;
To one group it is honey, and to another it is poison.
مروحه جنبان پی انعام کسوز برای قهر هر پشه و مگس
Moving the fan for the sake of favor to someone,
And for the sake of driving away every mosquito and fly —
مروحهٔ تقدیر ربانی چراپر نباشد ز امتحان و ابتلا
Why should the fan of Divine Providence
Not be full of trial and tribulation?
چونک جزو باد دم یا مروحهنیست الا مفسده یا مصلحه
Since a portion of the wind of breath, or a fan,
Is nothing but corruption or benefit,
این شمال و این صبا و این دبورکی بود از لطف و از انعام دور
Would this shamāl, this ṣabā, and this dabūr
Ever be far from grace and beneficence?
یک کف گندم ز انباری ببینفهم کن کان جمله باشد همچنین
See a handful of wheat from a granary;
Understand that the whole is likewise.
کل باد از برج باد آسمانکی جهد بی مروحهٔ آن بادران
Would all the wind from the celestial tower of winds
Ever rush forth without the fan of that wind-driver?
بر سر خرمن به وقت انتقادنه که فلاحان ز حق جویند باد
On the threshing floor at the time of winnowing,
Do not the farmers seek the wind from God,
تا جدا گردد ز گندم کاههاتا به انباری رود یا چاهها
So that the chaff may be separated from the wheat,
So that it may go to the granary or the pits?
چون بماند دیر آن باد وزانجمله را بینی به حق لابه کنان
When that blowing wind is long delayed,
You will see all of them supplicating to God.
همچنین در طلق آن باد ولادگر نیاید بانگ درد آید که داد
Likewise in labor, that wind of birth —
If it does not come, the cry of pain arises: 'Alas!'
گر نمی دانند کش راننده اوستباد را پس کردن زاری چه خوست
If they do not know whose driver it is,
Why would lamenting before the wind be of any use?
اهل کشتی همچنین جویای بادجمله خواهانش از آن رب العباد
The people of the ship likewise seek the wind;
All of them desire it from that Rabb al-ʿibād.
همچنین در درد دندانها ز باددفع می خواهی بسوز و اعتقاد
Likewise in toothache caused by wind,
You seek its removal with cautery and faith.
از خدا لابه کنان آن جندیانکه بده باد ظفر ای کامران
Those soldiers, supplicating to God:
'Give the wind of victory, O Fulfiller of desires!'
رقعهٔ تعویذ می خواهند نیزدر شکنجهٔ طلق زن از هر عزیز
They also seek the written talisman
In the agony of a woman in labor, from every dear one.
پس همه دانسته اند آن را یقینکه فرستد باد رب العالمین
So all have known this with certainty:
That the Rabb al-ʿālamīn sends the wind.
پس یقین در عقل هر داننده هستاینک با جنبنده جنباننده هست
So certainty exists in the mind of every knower:
Behold — with the moving thing, there is a Mover.
گر تو او را می نبینی در نظرفهم کن آن را به اظهار اثر
If you do not see Him in direct sight,
Understand Him through the manifestation of effect.
تن به جان جنبد نمی بینی تو جانلیک از جنبیدن تن جان بدان
The body moves by the soul — you do not see the soul;
But from the moving of the body, know the soul."
گفت او گر ابلهم من در ادبزیرکم اندر وفا و در طلب
He said, "If I am a fool in decorum,
I am shrewd in fidelity and in seeking."
گفت ادب این بود خود که دیده شدآن دگر را خود همی دانی تو لد
The beloved said, "This itself was the decorum that was seen;
As for that other — you know it yourself, O ladd."
