بخش ۴۹ - فی رؤیاء السّباع / Section 49 - On Dreaming of Predatory Beasts

شیر خصمی مسلط و مغرورکه بود کارش از مجامله دور
A lion is a dominant and proud enemy,
Whose actions are far from courtesy.
پیل شاهیست لیک با هیبتهرکسی ترسناک از آن صولت
An elephant represents a king, but with majesty,
Everyone is fearful of that power.
کبک باشد به هر سبیل مفیدنیست بر قول اوستاد مزید
A partridge is beneficial in every way;
There is nothing to add to the master's word.
آهو از خانهٔ زنان تعبیربیشتر دارد ای به دانش پیر
A deer is mostly interpreted as relating to women's households,
O elder of knowledge.
دشمن آید پلنگ بدکردارکه بود در معاملت مکار
A leopard is an evil-doing enemy,
Who is deceitful in dealings.
ببر را هم به دشمن انگارندبه کتاب اندرون چنین آرند
A tiger is also considered an enemy;
Thus they have written in the book.
خرس خصمیست پر خیانت و دزدکه ز دیدار او نیابی مزد
A bear is an enemy full of treachery and a thief,
From whose sight you will receive no reward.
یوز و کفتار و گرگ با روباهدشمنانند هریکی بدخواه
The cheetah, hyena, wolf, and fox,
Are each malevolent enemies.
ورچه روباه حیله گر باشدمرده بینی ورا بتر باشد
And although the fox is cunning,
If you see it dead, it is even worse.
مار بینی عدوی کینه ورستور کند قصد تو ترا بترست
If you see a snake, it is a spiteful enemy;
And if it targets you, it is worse for you.
گزدم و غنده و دگر حشراتهمه باشد ز جملهٔ آفات
The scorpion, spider, and other insects,
All are among the afflictions.
سگ به خواب اندرون عوان باشدلیک بیدار پاسبان باشد
A dog in a dream is an oppressor,
But when awake, it is a watchman.
