بخش ۲۱ - فیالامثال والمواعظ، الفقر سواد الوجه والدُّنیا دارالزوال و تغیّرالاحوال و الانتقال / Section 21 - On Proverbs and Admonitions: Poverty is the Blackness of the Face, and the World is the House of Decline, the Change of Conditions, and Passing Away
Text and Translation
| Be with the black when you have no choice, For black accepts no other color. | |
| With the black-faced, joy is joined; Few are the red-faced who bring gladness. | |
| The warmth of the fire that the heart seeks Desires the burnt, black-faced one. | |
| The ugly Zanj, in seeking affliction, Found joy in having a black face. | |
| His joy is not from his physical beauty; His happiness is from his musk-scent. | |
| Brighter than the light of the crescent moon Is the discovery of the state of Hilal and the shoe of Bilal. | |
| If you do not wish the secret of the heart to be exposed, Be black-faced in both worlds. | |
| For he who is a seeker of desires Is a curtain-ripper by day and a curtain-keeper by night. | |
| Cease these futile passions; Regard desire as a vessel of poison and the stomach as a snake. | |
| If the viper of your desire bites you, It will mature many deeds in you. | |
| For on this path, there is good within evil; The Water of Life is in the darkness. | |
| Why should the heart grieve over the black color, Since the night holds the day in its belly? | |
| Whatever is other than God, whatever is vain, Is outside the path of the truth of religion. | |
| For the true men in this ancient house Acquired new life without bait or seed. | |
| When they stride into the garden of God, They cast away whatever was mere instruction. | |
| Selflessness is the ultimate secret of all; The return of the pure spirit is to the Word. | |
| Pass beyond life and intellect at once So that you may reach the command of God. | |
| O you who have not rolled up the carpet of time, And you who have not passed beyond the four and nine. | |
| You do not see because you are night-blind; By day you are naked like the intellect of fools. | |
| I speak words to you not in mockery, But from the path of Truth in points and symbols. | |
| Until you pass beyond falsehood, there is no Truth, For from this side, there is no absolute Truth. | |
| Except as provision for the path to the Living World, Deem power as 'no good' and gold as 'nothing'. | |
| The power of the wealthy is 'no good', Just like the intellect of wine-drinkers is 'nothing'. | |
