متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

مبر این زندگی به صدر سعیرهم بدینجاش واگذار و بمیر
Do not carry this life to the depths of the blazing fire;
leave it right here and die.
زنده آنجایگه مبر تن خویشآب حیوان مده به دشمن خویش
Do not bring your living body to that place;
do not give the water of life to your enemy.
حرب قائم شده میان دو تنچه دهی تیغ خویش زی دشمن
A war is waged between two;
why do you hand your sword to the enemy?
که چو چشم اجل فراز کندپس از آن عقل چشم باز کند
For when the eye of death closes,
only then will the intellect open its eyes,
تا ببینی نهان عالم راتا ببینی جهان آدم را
So that you may see the secrets of the universe,
so that you may see the world of Adam,
تا ببینی یکی به چشم عیانچیزها را چنانکه هست چنان
So that you may see with your own eyes,
all things as they truly are.
تو هنوز از جهان چه دیدستیزین جهان نام او شنیدستی
What have you yet seen of the world?
You have only heard its name from this world.
غافلی از جهان و از کارشنازموده به فعل کردارش
You are heedless of the world and its workings,
inexperienced in its actions and deeds.
تو چو داماد و عقبی است عروسسوی دنیی نگه مکن به فسوس
You are like a groom, and the hereafter is the bride;
do not gaze upon this world with regretful longing.
ترسم این غفلت از همه مقصودباز دارد ترا گه موعود
I fear this heedlessness will keep you from your ultimate goal
at the promised hour.
پیش سلطان به پاسبان منگرنظر شاه مر ترا بهتر
In the presence of the Sultan, do not look at the watchman;
the gaze of the King is far better for you.
