Section 51 - On the Contradiction of the Two Abodes

Text and Translation

The cause of day and night is the sun and the earth;
Once you have passed beyond, neither this remains nor that.
These two, in your fancy, are the desired and the desirer;
Know that duality comes from the intellect, not from Unity.
In such a Presence, if you hear it from me:
Since all has become one, do not seek duality.
For at this door, though it is full of tumult,
Zal-e Zar is as weak as a powerless old woman.
In duality, recognize hardship and discrimination;
In oneness, Rostam and the coward are but one.
In the battlefield of purity and the arena of the heart,
Upon the height of the soul and the crown of the clay.
Until you cast away the sword, you will not become a shield;
Until you lay down the hat, you will not become a head.
As long as your heart is a slave to the hat,
Your actions, all year and month, shall be sin.
When you became free from the hat and the belt,
You became a head over the masters of the age.
Relinquishing the composition of the horse of success;
Negating the order is the essence of realization.
The death of the heart would be the destruction of the soul;
The death of the soul brings it security.
The garment of the breast of the King of Speech
Is free from the needle and the fingernail.
On this path, do not stand still in any manner;
Become naught, and do not fear becoming naught.
The swift traveler, though he be seemingly alone,
Is not a single person, for a world is sustained by him.
When you rose above the self and the intellect,
This world of yours was transferred to that world.
Every head that sprouted from you, in that very moment,
Strike it off like a lamp, a candle, and a pen.
For every head that is meant to be seen,
In the Way, it is meant to be severed.
To be headless before the arrogant is etiquette,
Because the head is constantly seeking a crown.
Headlessness shall bear you a head;
The casket full of pearls comes from the pomegranate's headlessness.
For the bald head, the hat is a shelter;
With such a head, the hat is a sin.
You have deceit hidden under the hat;
Inevitably, you shall not cross the bridge of fire.
For man, a well is better than status;
The whole becomes meddlesome when it finds a crown.
Joseph's status appeared from the well;
The wise soul became eloquent through the intellect.
For in the Divine court,
I shall tell you, if you do not know:
It is better that in this ascension,
You place your hand on your head and find no crown.
For the sake of the unseen, the dead one treads the path;
And for the sake of a flaw, the whole seeks a crown.
When Solomon gave perfection to the path,
Like Joseph, he gave beauty to the well.
Until the image of your form becomes a well,
The image of your head will not become Divine.
If there is harm within your hat,
Its heart itself will be the destruction of the soul.
In the Way, possess neither head nor hat,
Otherwise, you will have a heart full of fire like a candle.
If you desire Joseph-like beauty and status,
Be upside down before Truth like a well.
The head that is a slave to the hat
Is like Bizhan, a prisoner in the well.
And if you must have a hat,
Like the candle, have that hat made of fire.
For he who is the light of the path in love,
Like the candle, has a fiery hat.
O you, from form as the soul is from the body,
The heart from unity as the man from the name.
Effort arises from the body, attraction from the soul;
Tasting arises from relinquishing this and that.
Until eternity, compared to the Eternal, the created is a child;
And he who is pure is outside this dross.
As long as the earth is a place for bearing humans,
The tent of time is established.
Consider this earth a guest house;
Consider man as the steward.
