متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

ای ز دریا به کف کف آوردهوز ملک صورت صف آورده
O you who have only brought foam in hand from the sea,
And from the angel have only brought the form of a row.
مغز و در زان به دست ناوردیکه به گرد صدف همی گردی
You did not obtain the kernel and the pearl, because
You are only wandering around the shell.
زین صدفهای تیره دست بداردر صافی ز قعر بحر در آر
Withdraw your hand from these dark shells,
Bring out the pure pearl from the bottom of the sea.
گوهر بی صدف درون دلستصدف بی گهر درون گلست
The pearl without a shell is within the heart,
The shell without a pearl is within the clay.
قیمت در نه از صدف باشدتیر را قیمت از هدف باشد
The value of the pearl is not from the shell,
The arrow's value is from the target.
آنکه داند به دیده فهر از قعربشناسد ز در دریا بعر
He who can see a stone at the bottom of the sea,
Knows the pearl of the sea from dung.
وآنکه بر شط و شطر این دریاستنه سزاوار لؤلؤ لالاست
And he who is on the shore and margin of this sea
Is not worthy of the brilliant pearl.
سطر قرآن چو شطر ایمانستکه ازو راحت دل و جانست
A line of the Quran is like a part of faith,
From which comes the comfort of the heart and soul.
صفت لطف و عزت قرآنهست بحر محیط عالم جان
The attribute of grace and glory of the Quran
Is the encompassing ocean of the world of the soul.
قعر او پر ز در و پر گوهرساحلش پر ز عود و پر عنبر
Its depth is full of pearls and full of gems,
Its shore is full of aloe-wood and full of ambergris.
زوست از بهر باطن و ظاهرمنشعب علم اول و آخر
From it, for the sake of the inward and the outward,
Branch out the knowledge of the first and the last.
پاک شو تا معانی مکنونآید از پنجرهٔ حروف برون
Become pure so that the hidden meanings
May come out from the window of the letters.
تا برون ناید از حدث انسانکی برون آید از حروف قرآن
Until man emerges from his ritual impurity,
How can the meanings come out from the letters of the Quran?
تا تو باشی ز نفس خود محجوببا تو وعقل تو چه زشت و چه خوب
As long as you are veiled from your own self,
What is beautiful or ugly to you and your intellect?
نکند خیره دوری و دیریآب در خواب تشنه را سیری
Far distance and long delay do not, of themselves,
Satisfy a thirsty person with water in a dream.
نشود دل ز حرف قرآن بهنشود بز به پچپچی فربه
The heart does not become better from the letter of the Quran,
A goat is not fattened by whispering.
تو که در بند کلک و انقاسیچهره را از نقاب چه شناسی
You who are in the bond of the pen and the ink,
How do you recognize the face from the veil?
نبود خاصه در جهان سخنرنگ و بوی سخن چو جان سخن
Especially in the world of speech,
The color and scent of speech are not like the soul of speech.
گر همی گنج دلت باید و جانشو به دریای فسروا القرآن
If you desire the treasure of your heart and soul,
Go to the sea of 'and recite the Quran'.
تا در و گوهر یقین یابیتا درو کیمیای دین یابی
So that you find the pearl and gem of certainty,
So that you find in it the alchemy of religion.
چون قدم در نهی در آن اقلیمکندت ابجد وفا تعلیم
When you step into that realm,
It will teach you the alphabet of loyalty.
چون بخوانی او ابجد دین رااب و جد دان تو شمس و پروین را
When you read this alphabet of religion,
Consider Sun and Pleiades as your fathers and ancestors.
سیرت صادقان چنین باشدابجد عاشقان همین باشد
Such is the path of the truthful ones,
This is the alphabet of the lovers.
پردهٔ روی روز تاریک استنظم این نکته سخت باریک است
The veil over the face of day is dark,
The structure of this point is very delicate.
تا بیابی تو درج در یتیمتا بدانی تو زر ناب ز سیم
So that you may find the casket of the unique pearl,
So that you may distinguish pure gold from silver.
در جهان چیست سر ربانیدر میان چیست رمز روحانی
What is the divine secret in the world,
What is the spiritual mystery in the midst,
تا نماید به تو چو مهر و چو ماهروی خوب خود از نقاب سیاه
So that it shows to you like the sun and the moon,
Its beautiful face from the black veil,
چون عروسی که از نقاب تنکبه در آید لطیف روح و سبک
Like a bride who from a thin veil
Comes out gentle in spirit and light.
