Section 15 - On the Justice of the King and Its Attributes
Text and Translation
| Act with justice, because in the realm of the heart, the just person knocks on the door of prophethood. | |
| When Moses acted with justice in his shepherding, the Generous God gave him prophethood. | |
| Until he shepherded animals, how could he become a shepherd over human beings? | |
| Justice in the hand of one who is fair is a strong shield against the arrow of death. | |
| Death can do nothing to the just person, because the just person has a heart enlivened by justice. | |
| A bold king is contentious, while a cowardly king is always humiliated. | |
| The just king stands between good and bad; a sharp and oppressive one destroys both the people and himself. | |
| The just king stays in the middle path; he is neither of a lion-like nature nor camel-hearted. | |
| For the kingdom, an oppressive but bold king is better than a weak just ruler. | |
| A helpless king, even if just, cannot secure justice for anyone nor can he give it. | |
| An oppressive king is alienated from both kingdom and religion; his soul, by nature, is left alone in injustice. | |
| When the king's heart is filled with bloody tears due to helplessness, he is not a king but merely a painting on a bathhouse wall. | |
| The king's justice is a blessing from God; his oppression is a fetter on the feet of the people. | |
| A just king is like Noah's Ark, from which comes safety and comfort of the soul. | |
| An oppressive king is like the waves of the tempest, bringing destruction of home and life. | |
| Whether in ruins or prosperity, the king's justice is rain, and his oppression is a tempest. | |
| The world seeks a just king; purify your intention and take the world. | |
| Anyone who keeps the world with justice and religion, by God, is no less than the Mahdi. | |
| For he did not become the Mahdi through weak covenants; he became the Mahdi through religion and justice. | |
| Rid yourself of oppression and bad faith, and I would be an infidel if I did not call you the Mahdi. | |
| The glory of justice and the beauty of the sun are one; the root of injustice and the branch of the willow tree are one. | |
| Creating light belongs to the sun in the heavens; burning down belongs to the willow tree on the plains. | |
| With oppression, the feast of the kingdom is chaos; without the letter 'alif' (meaning uprightness), the design of judgment is merely a cycle. | |
| A dominant and arrogant king is far from God and far from the people. | |
| Ignorant of God and of his appointed time of death, yet feeling secure from the arrow of dawn. | |
| O how many crowns and thrones of stoned rulers have been shattered piece by piece by the prayers of the oppressed! | |
| O how many banners of enemy-conquerors have been overturned by the prayers of old women! | |
| O how many arrows of the treasurers have been broken into splinters by the prayers of the suffering! | |
| O how many spears of tyrants have been torn to pieces by the prayers of the sorrowful! | |
| O how many pride and vanity of the mighty have been scattered and ruined by the prayers of the needy! | |
| O how many wind-catchers, domes, and caravanserais have been turned upside down by the tears of orphans! | |
| O how many kingdoms of talented rulers have perished miserably through the prayers of the fatherless! | |
| What a single old woman does at dawn cannot be done by a hundred thousand arrows and axes. | |
