بخش ۴ - در شرف نفس و عقل / Section 4 - On the Nobility of the Soul and Intellect

متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

پدر و مادر جهان لطیفنفس گویا شناس و عقل شریف
Father and mother of the subtle world,
Know as the speaking soul and the noble intellect.
زین دو جفت شریف طاق مباشواندرین هر دو اصل عاق مباش
Do not be apart from this noble pair,
And do not be a disobedient child to these two origins.
بندگی کن همیشه ایشان رامده از دست در پریشان را
Always be in their service,
Do not let go of these pearls in distress.
گرشان بعد امر بپرستنداین دو گوهر سزای آن هستند
If after His command they were to be worshipped,
These two jewels would be worthy of it.
پدر و مادری که نازارندحکما عقل و نفس را دارند
The father and mother who do not cause harm,
The wise consider them to be the intellect and soul.
مایه بخش سپهر و ارکانندپیشکاران عالم جانند
They grant substance to the sphere and the elements,
They are the stewards of the world of spirit.
سبب جسمت این دو جسمانیستعلت روحت آن دو روحانیست
The cause of your body is those two physical ones,
The cause of your spirit is these two spiritual ones.
آن دوت از آرزو سپرده به خاکوآن دوت از قدر برده بر افلاک
Those two consigned you to dust out of desire,
While these two elevated you to the heavens through worth.
حق آن دو شریف را بگذارحق این هر دو هم فرو مگذار
Fulfill the rights of those two noble ones,
Yet do not neglect the rights of these two either.
وانکه در راه کعبه از سر داداشتر این داد اگرت زاد آن داد
He who sacrificed his head on the path to the Kaaba,
This one provided the camel if that one gave the provision.
خرد از تو تویی برد جاویدآب را در هوا کشد خورشید
Intellect eternally takes your ego away from you,
Just as the sun draws water into the air.
خرد آمد مشاطهٔ جانتخرد آمد چراغ ایمانت
Intellect became the adornment of your soul,
Intellect became the lamp of your faith.
حقهٔ حق دراین جهان خردستسر به مهرست و پایدار خودست
The casket of Truth in this world is the intellect,
It is sealed and endures by itself.
عقل در کارگاه کن فیکوناز پی جلوهٔ قرار و سکون
The intellect in the workshop of 'Be, and it is',
Seeking the manifestation of tranquility and stillness,
در ازل چون حدیث با خود راندتا ابد همچو کرم پیله بماند
When it conversed with itself in eternity,
It remained like a silkworm unto eternity.
سوی بازار دین چو جستی راهرستی ار جستی از ملامت گاه
When you sought the way to the marketplace of faith,
You were saved if you leapt from the place of blame.
از کژی دور باش و کاژ مباشچون نه ای عود خیره ناژ مباش
Be far from crookedness and do not be perverse,
Since you are not aloe wood, do not foolishly be pine.
که کژی نفس عشوه آگین راستراستی عقل عافیت بین راست
For crookedness belongs to the deceit-filled soul,
Straightness belongs to the safety-seeking intellect.
خرد از بد ترا نجات دهدخرد از دوزخت برات دهد
Intellect will save you from evil,
Intellect will give you an exemption from Hell.
جاهلی کفر و عاقلی دین استعیب جو آن و غیب گو این است
Ignorance is disbelief and intelligence is faith,
That one seeks faults and this one speaks of the unseen.
کشد این را هوا سوی سجینبرد آنرا خرد به علیین
Desire drags this one to Sijjin (the lowest hell),
Intellect carries that one to Illiyyin (the highest heaven).
منگر آن تات بد چه فرمایدآن نگر کت خرد چه فرماید
Do not look at what the evil commands you to do,
Look at what the intellect commands you.
کند ار عاقلت به حق در خشمبه از آن کت ببندد ابله چشم
If a wise man rightfully becomes angry with you,
It is better than a fool blinding your eyes.
همه کار تو باد با عقلادور بادی ز صحبت جهلا
May all your affairs be with the wise,
May you be far from the company of the ignorant.
