بخش ۱۴ - اندر جمع بین عقل و شرع / Section 14 - On the Reconciliation of Intellect and Religious Law

عقل چشم و پیمبری نورستآن ازین این از آن نه بس دورست
Intellect is the eye, and prophethood is the light,
That from this, and this from that, are not very far.
اینکه در دست شهوت و خشمندچشم بی نور و نور بی چشمند
Those who are in the hands of lust and anger,
Are eyes without light, and light without eyes.
نور بی چشم شاخ بی بر دانچشم بی نور جسم بی سر دان
Consider light without an eye as a branch without fruit,
Consider an eye without light as a body without a head.
این تواضع نمای پر تلبیسوآن تکبر فزای چون ابلیس
This one feigns humility but is full of deceit,
And that one increases in arrogance like Iblis.
این ز دست امیر چیز دهدوآن ز کون رئیس تیز دهد
This one gives things from the hand of the commander,
And that one gives a fart from the chief's behind.
نیست جز شرع و عقل و جان و دماغخلق را در دو خطه چشم و چراغ
There is nothing but religious law, intellect, soul, and brain,
For the people in the two realms as their eye and lamp.
چون ترا از خرد هوا بدلستخنده ت آید ز هرچه جز جدلست
Since for you, desire is a substitute for intellect,
You laugh at everything except disputation.
چون خرد سوی هر دلی پویدوز دل هرکسی سخن گوید
When intellect hastens toward every heart,
And speaks from the heart of everyone.
از پی مصلحت درین بنیادکاولش آتش است و آخر باد
In pursuit of what is beneficial in this foundation,
Whose beginning is fire and whose end is wind.
قهرمان امین یزدانیستبهرمان نگین انسانیست
It is the trustworthy champion of the Divine,
It is the ruby ring of humanity.
عقل جز داد و جز کرم نکندکه اولوالامر خود ستم نکند
Intellect does nothing but justice and generosity,
For those in authority do not themselves commit oppression.
عقل چون برگشاد زاغ هوسدرکشد چون تذرو سر در خس
When intellect drives away the raven of desire,
Desire draws its head into the brushwood like a pheasant.
راکبی کز خرد عنان دارداسب انجام زیر ران دارد
A rider who holds the reins of intellect,
Has the horse of the final destination under his thighs.
چهره ای را که روز بد نبودهیچ مشاطه چون خرد نبود
For a face that has no bad day,
There is no beautifier like the intellect.
از خرد بدگهر نگیرد فرکی شود سنگ بدگهر گوهر
A base-born person does not gain glory from intellect,
When does a base stone become a jewel?
مده ای پور روز نیک به بدبا خردرو زآن نه با دل خود
O son, do not exchange a good day for a bad one,
Walk with intellect, not with your own heart.
با خرد باش و از هوا بگریزکه هوا علتیست رنگ آمیز
Be with intellect and flee from desire,
For desire is an illness that mixes colors.
کون بی تجربت فساد بودتجربت عقل مستفاد بود
Existence without experience is corruption,
Experience is the acquired intellect.
خرد از بهر عاطفت باشدختم عمرش بر این صفت باشد
Intellect is for the sake of affection,
The end of one's life will be upon this attribute.
خرد از بهر بر و احسانستزانکه خود خلقتش ازین سانست
Intellect is for the sake of righteousness and beneficence,
Because its own creation is of this sort.
حرف بد بر زبان بون باشدهرکه با دین بود نه دون باشد
A bad word on the tongue is a foul smell,
Whoever is with religion is not base.
ملک عقل از عقود کانی بهپادشاهی ز پاسبانی به
The kingdom of intellect is better than mineral necklaces,
Kingship is better than being a watchman.
عقل را هیچ مدح نتوان گفتجز بدو در مدح نتوان سفت
No praise can be said for the intellect,
Except through it, pearls of praise cannot be pierced.
شو رها کن جهان فانی راتا بدانی جمال باقی را
Go, let go of the mortal world,
So that you may know the eternal beauty.
آن کسی کو به ملک عقل رسیددو جهان را چنانکه هست بدید
The one who reached the kingdom of intellect,
Saw the two worlds just as they are.
از برای حصول نعمت دلدر دل آویز خاک بر سر گل
For the sake of attaining the bounty of the heart,
Cling to the heart, throw dirt on the head of clay.
ای خداوند خالق سبحانمن رهی را به ملک عقل رسان
O Lord, the Glorious Creator,
Bring me, the servant, to the kingdom of intellect.
سخن عقل چون تمام آمدعلم را در جهان نظام آمد
When the discourse on intellect came to completion,
Knowledge found order in the world.
