متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation
| صعوه آمد، دل ضعیف و تن نزار | پای تا سر همچو آتش بی قرار |
| The wagtail arrived, weak of heart and frail of body Restless from head to toe like fire | |
| گفت: من حیران و فرتوت آمدم | بی دل و بی قوت و قوت آمدم |
| It said: I have arrived bewildered and decrepit I have arrived without heart, without food, and without strength | |
| همچو موسی بازو و زوریم نیست | وز ضعیفی، قوت موریم نیست |
| I do not have the arm and might of Moses And from weakness, I do not have the strength of an ant | |
| من نه پر دارم، نه پا، نه هیچ نیز | کی رسم در گرد سیمرغ عزیز؟ |
| I have no wings, no feet, nor anything else How can I reach the dust of the dear Simorgh? | |
| پیش او این مرغ عاجز کی رسد؟ | صعوه در سیمرغ هرگز کی رسد؟ |
| How can this helpless bird arrive before him? How can the wagtail ever reach the Simorgh? | |
| در جهان او را طلب کاران بسی ست | وصل او کی لایق چون من کسی ست؟ |
| In the world, there are many seekers for him How is union with him fitting for someone like me? | |
| در وصال او چو نتوانم رسید | بر محالی راه نتوانم برید |
| Since I cannot attain union with him I cannot traverse the path towards the impossible | |
| گر نهم رویی به سوی درگهش | یا بمیرم یا بسوزم در رهش |
| If I set my face towards his court I will either die or burn on his path | |
| چون نیم من مرد او، این جایگاه | یوسف خود باز می جویم ز چاه |
| Since I am not his man, in this place I will seek my own Joseph from the well | |
| یوسفی گم کرده ام در چاهسار | بازیابم آخرش در روزگار |
| I have lost a Joseph in the well I will find him at last in time | |
| گر بیابم یوسف خود را ز چاه | بر پرم با او من از ماهی به ماه |
| If I find my own Joseph from the well I will fly with him from the fish to the moon | |
| هدهدش گفت: ای ز شنگی و خوشی | کرده در افتادگی صد سرکشی! |
| The hoopoe said to it: O you who, out of cunning and charm Have shown a hundred rebellions while claiming humility! | |
| جمله سالوسی تو، من این کی خرم؟ | نیست این سالوسی تو درخورم |
| You are entirely deceitful; when will I buy this? This deceit of yours is not worthy of me | |
| پای در ره نه، مزن دم، لب بدوز | گر بسوزند این همه تو هم بسوز |
| Set your foot on the path, do not utter a breath, sew your lips shut If all these burn, you burn too | |
| گر تو یعقوبی به معنی فی المثل | یوسفت ندهند کمتر کن حیل |
| If you are Jacob in meaning, for instance They will not give you your Joseph; make fewer tricks | |
| می فروزد آتش غیرت مدام | عشق یوسف هست بر عالم حرام |
| The fire of jealousy burns constantly The love of Joseph is forbidden to the world | |
