Book Six - Section 24 - The Poet Making a Point to Taunt the Shia of Aleppo

Text and Translation

He said, 'Yes, but where is the era of Yazid?
When was this? How late has this grief arrived here!
The eyes of the blind saw that loss,
The ears of the deaf heard that tale.
Have you been asleep until now,
That only now you tear your garments in mourning?
Then mourn for yourselves, O sleepers!
Because this heavy sleep is an evil death.
A royal spirit escaped from a prison;
Why should we tear our garments, why bite our hands?
Since they were the kings of religion,
It was a time for joy when they broke their bonds.
They galloped toward the pavilion of fortune,
They threw off the fetters and chains.
It is a day of sovereignty, dominion, and kingship,
If you have even a speck of awareness of them.
And if you are not aware, go and weep for yourself,
For you are in denial of the transition and the Gathering.
Lament over your ruined heart and religion,
Which sees nothing but this ancient dust.
And if it does see, why is it not brave,
Supported, self-sacrificing, and content?
Where in your face is the joy of the wine of religion?
If you have seen the sea, where is the generous hand?
He who has seen the stream does not withhold water,
Especially the one who has seen that ocean and clouds.'
