Section 35 - A Parable on the Stages of Existence and the Insignificance of the Being of the World of Existence

Text and Translation

A vapor rises up from the sea,
By the command of the Truth, it rains down upon the desert.
The sun's ray from the fourth sphere
Falls upon it, and they combine.
Heat once again resolves to ascend,
And that seawater clings to it.
When earth and air are joined with them,
A green and fresh plant emerges.
It becomes food for animals through transformation,
Man eats it and it is digested once more.
It becomes a drop of semen and passes through stages,
And from it, man is born once again.
When the light of the speaking soul enters the body,
A subtle, luminous body comes forth.
He becomes a child, a youth, middle-aged, and old,
Acquiring knowledge, judgment, understanding, and counsel.
Then death arrives from the Holy Presence,
The pure goes to the Pure, and the dust returns to dust.
All parts of the world are like plants,
Which are but a single drop from the ocean of life.
When time passes over them, they return;
Their end is just like their beginning.
Each of them moves toward the center,
For nature does not abandon the habit of the center.
Unity is like a sea, but full of blood,
From which arise thousands of mad waves.
Behold how the raindrop from the sea
Obtained all these forms and names:
Vapor, cloud, rain, moisture, and clay,
Plant, animal, and the Perfect Man!
In the end, it was all one drop in the beginning,
From which all these things were made manifest.
The world, consisting of intellect, soul, spheres, and bodies,
Know it to be like that single drop from beginning to end.
When death arrives for the spheres and stars,
All existence is lost in non-existence.
When a wave rises, the world is effaced,
And 'as though it had not flourished yesterday' becomes a certainty.
Fancy is removed all at once,
Nothing remains in the house but the Truth.
At that moment, closeness is attained for you,
You, in your selflessness, become united with the Friend.
Here, union is the removal of illusion,
When the 'other' is removed, that is union.
Say not that the contingent exceeded its limits:
Neither did it become the Necessary, nor did the Necessary become it.
Whosoever excels in spiritual meanings,
Will not say that this is the inversion of realities.
O Master, you have thousands of states of existence ahead of you;
Go, and contemplate your coming and going.
From the discussion of the part and the whole of the human states,
I shall tell, one by one, the manifest and the hidden.
