بأکافی یکی گفت ای سرافرازز معراج نبی رمزی بگو باز
Someone said to Ba-Kafi, 'O exalted one,
Tell us a secret again about the Prophet's ascension.
بیان کن سر معراجش که چون بودبگفت او هم درون و هم برون بود
Explain the mystery of his ascension, how it was.'
He replied, 'He was both inner and outer.
یکی بد ذات او در بود آنجایقین می دید او معبود آنجا
His essence was one and was within there;
With certainty, he saw the Worshipped One there.
مکانش در حقیقت لامکان بودچرا کاندر عیان او جان جان بود
His place, in truth, was the placeless;
For in his clear vision, he was the soul of the soul.
همه او بود لیکن در حقیقتشد او خاموش و دم زد از شریعت
All was Him, but in truth,
He became silent and spoke of the Sharia (Divine Law).
تو هم گر واقف اسرار گردیز شرعش لایق دیدار گردی
If you too become aware of the secrets,
Through his Law you will become worthy of the vision.
بقدر خود توانی دید جانانیکی گردی تو با توحید خوانان
According to your own capacity, you can see the Beloved;
You will become one with those who sing of divine unity.
قدم از شرع او بیرون منه بازکزو گردی مگر تو صاحب راز
Do not step outside his Law again,
So that through it you might become a possessor of the secret.
ولی بر قدر هر کس راز بایدنمودن تا دری او را گشاید
But the secret must be revealed according to each person's capacity,
So that a door may be opened for them.'
زهی عطار کز نور محمدشدی مسعود و منصور و مؤید
Bravo, Attar, for from the light of Muhammad,
You have become fortunate, victorious, and supported!
ازو در جان و در دل مغز داریازان این درهای نغز داری
From him you have the essence in your soul and heart;
Because of that, you have these exquisite pearls.
زبان تو ازو آمد گهردارز قعر بحر جان هردم گهربار
Your tongue became pearl-bearing through him,
Scattering pearls at every moment from the depth of the sea of the soul.
یقین کز خدمت او کام یابیوزو در هر دو عالم نام یابی
Certainly, through his service you will achieve your desire,
And through him you will find a good name in both worlds.
رسولا رهبر عطار از تستزسر عشق برخوردار از تست
O Messenger! Attar's guide is from you;
He is blessed with the secret of love from you.
ز تو دارد گهرهای معانیبجز تو کس ندارد وین تو دانی
He has the pearls of meaning from you;
No one else possesses them, and this you know.
یقین کز شاعرانم نشمری توبچشم شاعرانم ننگری تو
Certainly, you do not count me among the mere poets;
You do not look upon me with the eye for poets.
تو میدانی، چه گویم بیش ازین منترا می جستم اینجا پیش ازین من
You know, what more can I say?
I was seeking you here before this.
چو دیدم حضرت پاک تو اینجاشدم از عجز من خاک تو اینجا
When I saw your pure presence here,
Out of my helplessness, I became your dust here.
قبولم کن که تو از حق قبولیتو در سر یقین صاحب وصولی
Accept me, for you are accepted by the Truth (God);
In the secret of certainty, you are the one who has attained union.
مران از حضرت پاکم حقیقتکه من در حضرتت خاکم حقیقت
Do not drive me away from your pure presence, in truth;
For I am, in truth, dust in your presence.
چه باشد گر نهی پائی بدین خاککه بر سر داری از حق تاج لولاک
What would it be if you place a foot upon this dust,
For on your head you wear from the Truth the crown of 'Lawlaak' ('If not for you...').
منور کن دل عطار از خویشمر او را کن تو بر خوردار از خویش
Illumine Attar's heart from yourself;
Make him blessed by yourself.
بحق چار یار برگزیدهکه دورم مفگن ای نور دو دیده
By the right of the four chosen companions,
Do not cast me far away, O light of both eyes!
