پدر گفتش تو زنهار این میندیشکه برگیرم خیال شهوة از پیش
The father said to him, 'Take heed, do not think this,
That I will remove the thought of lust from before you.
ولی چون تو ز عالم این گزیدیهم این گفتی و هم این را شنیدی
But since you chose this from the world,
You have both spoken this and heard this.
بدان مانست کز صد عالم اسرارنهٔ تو جز ز یک شهوة خبردار
It is as if, out of a hundred worlds of secrets,
You are aware of nothing except a single lust.
منت زان این سخن گفتم بخلوتکه تا بیرون نهی گامی ز شهوت
I spoke this word to you in privacy
So that you might take a step out of lust.
چو با عیسی توان هم راز بودنکه خواهد با خری انباز بودن
Since one can be a confidant to Jesus,
Who would want to be a partner to a donkey?
چرا با خر شریک آئی به شهوتچو با عیسی توان بودن بخلوت
Why would you become a partner with a donkey in lust,
When you can be in solitude with Jesus?
چو یک دم بیش نیست این شهوة آخرازان به جاودانی خلوة آخر
Since this lust is ultimately no more than a single moment,
An eternal solitude is better than that.
چودایم می کند باقیست خلوتزمانی در گذر یعنی ز شهوت
Since solitude remains forever,
Pass away for a moment, that is, from lust.
ز شهوة نیست خلوة هیچ مطلوبکسی کین سر ندارد هست معیوب
In lust, solitude is not desired at all;
Anyone who does not possess this secret is defective.
ولیکن چون رسد شهوة بغایتز شهوة عشق زاید بی نهایت
But when lust reaches its extreme limit,
From lust is born infinite love.
ولی چون عشق گردد سخت بسیارمحبت از میان آید پدیدار
But when love becomes very intense,
Affection appears in the midst.
محبت چون بحد خود رسد نیزشود جان تو در محبوب ناچیز
When affection also reaches its limit,
Your soul becomes nothing in the Beloved.
ز شهوة درگذر چون نیست مطلوبکه اصل جمله محبوبست محبوب
Pass away from lust since it is not the desired goal,
For the origin of everything is the Beloved, the Beloved.
اگر کشته شوی در راه او زاربسی به زانکه در شهوة گرفتار
If you are slain miserably in His path,
It is far better than being trapped in lust.'
