بخش ۱۶ - گفتار در ترغیب مسترشدان آگاه بر مداومت کلمه طیبه لااله الاالله که مفتاح گنج سعادت و مصباح کنج عبادت است / Section 16 - Discourse on Encouraging Conscious Seekers to Persevere in the Pure Word 'La ilaha illallah', which is the Key to the Treasure of Happiness and the Lamp in the Corner of Worship

Text and Translation

O you who have drawn with the pen of illusion and imagination,
Superfluous letters on the tablet of the heart all year round!
Becoming in this chameleon-like workshop
A board for various designs.
How long from corrupted patterns
Will your tablet be dark and your board black?
Be the reader of the letters of your own scripture;
Wash or scrape away whatever is superfluous.
Your heart is a God-reflecting mirror;
Why is the face of your mirror dark?
Polish it like a polisher;
Perhaps your mirror will become bright.
Whatever is mortal will be wiped away from it,
And whatever is eternal will be shown in it.
If you are unaware of its polish,
It is nothing but 'La ilaha illallah' (There is no god but Allah).
'La' (No) is a universe-devouring whale;
It has drawn from the divine throne to the earth into its mouth.
Wherever that whale has made its way,
Neither scent nor color of 'I' and 'We' has remained.
It is the compass of the workshop of eternity,
Drawing the line of non-existence around the entities.
No point in these busy circles
Is outside the turn of this compass.
Whether compound in this space or simple,
The decree of annihilation encompasses all.
Rather, it is the scissors of the champion of Truth,
Cutting the connection of all creation.
Whatever pokes its head out of the collar of survival,
It sews the garment of annihilation onto its stature.
The Hindu of the self has a two-pronged yoke,
Narrowing the wide world upon it.
Dragging it by the two prongs on its neck,
It takes it to the service of the Lord of Grace.
Two saplings have grown from one root;
Their fruit is a reprimand to the self and nature.
This fruit may be bitter at the beginning,
But in the end, it brings much sweetness.
The throne of 'La' is a small triangle;
In it, the great world vanishes.
Whoever turned his face from contingent existence,
Found a way to a corner of that triangle.
Reason knows from the narrowness of every corner,
That there is no room in it for 'We' and 'I'.
Abu Hanifa, who pierced the pearl of meaning,
Called a type of wine 'Muthallath' (Triangle).
According to his view in the religion of guidance,
That 'Muthallath' is permissible and pure, but...
This triangle in the religion of the people of salvation,
Is obligatory and required, not merely permissible.
From that triangle, whoever drank a cup,
Became from intoxication oblivious to every raw one.
From this triangle, whoever drank a single sip,
His fortune drew the lottery in his name.
The sip of comfort fell into his cup,
The lottery of state fell to his name.
When you escape from the narrow breach of 'La',
The affair falls to 'Illa' (Except).
Although 'La' had the darkness of non-existence,
'Illa' has the radiance of the light of eternity.
Although 'La' was the mine of the disbelief of denial,
'Illa' is the key to the treasure of witnessing.
When 'La' rolls up the carpet of multiplicity,
'Illa' gives wine from the cup of unity.
That one frees you from the pattern of more and less,
And this one delivers you to the unity of your eternity.
Until you make the veil of multiplicity far away,
The sun of unity will not give light.
That sun is always shining;
It is hidden from you because of your veil.
If you come out of the veil of duality,
Duality will be removed from the middle.
In earth and time and universe and space,
You will see Him entirely, manifest and hidden.
The sun of eternity is higher than that,
For any flaw to fall upon it from a veil.
You are the veil, but the veil of yourself;
You are the curtain over the light of your own sun.
If for a moment you become free from yourself,
You will become the landing place of the grace of special light.
The attraction of that grace will gain mastery;
You will be freed both from 'La' and from 'Illa'.
Negation and affirmation will pack their bags;
Your mind will not accept being under a burden.
You will step out of the trap of pride;
You will become a beneficiary of the permanence of presence.
Both at the time of listening and speaking,
And at the time of eating and sleeping.
Absent from everyone and present to Truth;
Your eye and soul will be looking at Truth.
Your intoxication and sobriety will become one;
Your sleep and wakefulness will become one.
Your outward eye on others,
Your inward eye looking to Truth.
