بخش ۲۹ - در بیان آنکه از خودی خود رستن و از عجب و ریا خلاص شدن جز در خدمت پیر صاحب تصرف دست ندهد / Section 29 - On the explanation that escaping from one's ego and being freed from conceit and hypocrisy cannot be achieved except in the service of a spiritually commanding elder (Pir)

متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

آن زمان از ریا و عجب رهیکه شوی پیر را رهین و رهی
You will be freed from hypocrisy and conceit at that time
When you become indebted and a follower of the Elder (Pir).
هست در نفس دار و گیر بسیکه نداند به غیر پیر کسی
There are many struggles and captivities within the ego
Which no one knows except the Elder.
نفس افعی و پیر خضر شعارکور می سازدش زمردوار
The ego is a viper, and the Elder has the characteristics of Khidr,
He makes it blind like an emerald [makes a snake blind].
نفس دیو است و پیر نجم هدیرجم دیو است کار نجم بلی
The ego is a demon, and the Elder is the star of guidance,
Stoning the demon is the task of the star, indeed.
کیست پیر آن که نیست یک سر موسیه از ظلمت وجود بر او
Who is the Elder? He upon whom not a single hair
Is black from the darkness of existence.
گردد از تاب آفتاب ازلمو به مو ظلمتش به نور بدل
By the heat of the pre-eternal sun,
Hair by hair, his darkness turns into light.
نور حق تا بدلش ز لوح جبینسرالشیب نوری اینست این
The light of Truth extends to his heart from his forehead;
"Old age is my light" means exactly this.
آن که پیر از بیاض موی بودسخره کودکان کوی بود
He who is an elder only because of the whiteness of his hair
Is the mockingstock of the children of the street.
هرگز آن دولت از کجا یابدکه بر او نور کبریا تابد
How could he ever attain the fortune
That the light of Divine Grandeur shines upon him?
گوش کن از حکیم نادره گویکه ز بلغم بود سفیدی موی
Listen to the wise speaker of rarities,
That the whiteness of hair comes from phlegm.
کی شود حاصل ای به غفل علمنور حق از رطوبت و بلغم
O you whose banner is negligence, how can
The light of Truth be acquired from moisture and phlegm?
تا کی ای ساده دل ز ساده وشیریش صابون زنی و شانه کشی
How long, O simple-hearted one, out of simple-mindedness,
Will you soap your beard and comb it?
من گرفتم کز آب و صابونتشد چو کافور موی شبگونت
I grant that by your water and soap,
Your night-colored hair becomes like camphor.
چه بود در ترازوی امیدوزن این یک دو مشت پشم سفید
What weight does it have in the scale of hope,
The weight of these one or two handfuls of white wool?
نور می بایدت در دل گیرکه دل است از خدای نور پذیر
You need light; capture it in the heart,
For it is the heart that receives light from God.
نور ناتافته ز روزن دلمشکل افتد به کوی و برزن گل
If light does not shine through the window of the heart,
It is difficult for it to fall upon the street and quarter of clay [the body].
نور بر آب و گل ز دل تابدآب و گل روشنی ز دل یابد
Light shines upon water and clay from the heart,
Water and clay receive brightness from the heart.
شمعکی برزند به خانه علمرخت بربندد از میانه ظلم
It lights a small candle in the house of knowledge,
And oppression and darkness pack their bags from the midst.
نور حق چون ز دل ظهور کندظلمت تن چه شر و شور کند
When the light of Truth manifests from the heart,
What mischief and tumult can the darkness of the body cause?
آنچه تو از حدیث مصطفویدر نشان ولی همی شنوی
What you hear from the Prophetic Hadith
Regarding the signs of a saint (Wali),
که به رویش کسی نظر چو گشادبی توقف خدایش آمد یاد
That when someone lays eyes upon his face,
Without delay, he is reminded of God,
آن نشان مقتضای این نور استور نه آب و گل از خدا دور است
That sign is the requirement of this light;
Otherwise, water and clay are far from God.
چون درین نور پیر شد فانیخواندش عقل پیر نورانی
When the Elder becomes annihilated in this light,
The Intellect calls him the luminous Elder.
پیر چون یافتی ازو مگسلور نه یکدم ز جست و جو مگسل
When you find the Elder, do not break away from him,
And if not, do not cease searching for a single moment.
در به در کو به کو بجوی او راهر کجا یافتی ببوی او را
Seek him from door to door and street to street,
Wherever you find him, catch his scent.
چون ازو بوی جذب عشق آیدگر شوی خاک پای او شاید
When the scent of the attraction of love comes from him,
It is fitting if you become the dust of his feet.
ور نه آید مایست از تک و پویرو ز جای دگر بجوی و ببوی
And if it does not come, do not stop your efforts and running,
Go and seek and smell somewhere else.
آن بود بو که چون به او برسیبرهی از هزار بوالهوسی
That is the scent which, when you reach it,
You will be freed from a thousand caprices.
خاطرت را به جذب پنهانیجمع سازد ز هر پریشانی
Through a hidden attraction, he will gather your mind
From every distress and distraction.
برهاند ز رنج آب و گلتبرساند به سر جان و دلت
He will deliver you from the suffering of your water and clay,
And bring you to the secret of your soul and heart.
