متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

جامی از گفتگو ببند زبانهیچ سودی ندیده چند زیان
Jami, close your tongue from speaking
Having seen no profit, how much loss?
پای کش در گلیم گوشه خویشدست بگشا به کسب توشه خویش
Draw your feet into the blanket of your own corner
Open your hand to acquire your own provision
شیوه گوشه گیری از سر گیرگوشه دامن پیمبر گیر
Resume the practice of seclusion
Grasp the hem of the Prophet's garment
روی دل در بقای سرمد باشنقد جان زیر پای احمد باش
Direct the face of your heart toward eternal survival
Let the coin of your soul be under the feet of Ahmad
قایدالخلق بالهدی والعونشاه لولاک ما خلقت الکون
The Leader of creation with guidance and aid
The King of 'If not for you, I would not have created the universe'
نقد یثرب سلاله بطحاامی لوح خوان ما اوحی
The treasure of Yathrib, the progeny of Batha
The unlettered reader of the tablet of 'what was revealed'
فیض ام الکتاب پروردشلقب امی خدای ازان کردش
The grace of the Mother of the Book nurtured him
God gave him the title 'Unlettered' for that reason
لوح تعلیم ناگرفته به برهمه ز اسرار لوح داده خبر
Having never held the tablet of instruction to his chest
He gave news of all the secrets of the Tablet
قلم و لوح بودش اندر مشتزان نفرسودش از قلم انگشت
The Pen and the Tablet were in his fist
Therefore, his finger was not worn by the pen
آنکه شوق قمر کند چو قلمبه قلم گر نبرد دست چه غم
He who splits the moon like a pen
If he does not take his hand to the pen, what sorrow?
از گنه شست دفتر همه پاکورقی گر سیه نکرد چه باک
He washed the book of everyone clean of sin
If he did not blacken a page, what fear?
بر خط اوست انس و جان را سرگر نخواند خطی ازان چه خطر
Mankind and jinn have their heads bowed to his line
If he did not read a line of it, what danger?
داشت از در دهانش درجی پرواندر آن درج درج سی و دو در
His mouth had a casket full of pearls
And in that casket were arranged thirty-two pearls
بود عقد صحیح لیک در آنکسری افکند سنگ بدگهران
It was a perfect necklace, but in it
The stone of the wicked ones caused a break
بود نعلش سهیل رخشندهسنگ را رنگ لعل بخشنده
His horseshoe was the shining Canopus
Granting the color of ruby to the stone
چون سهیلش رفیق سنگ آمدسنگ در دم عقیق رنگ آمد
When his Canopus became a companion to the stone
The stone instantly became the color of carnelian
سنگکی کم ز مهره تسبیحدر کفش سبحه خوان به لفظ فصیح
A small stone, less than a rosary bead
In his palm, reciting praise with an eloquent tongue
وان فصیحان دل سیه چون سنگدر خموشی ز نعت او یکرنگ
And those eloquent ones, black-hearted as stone
In silence, united in withholding his praise
معده سنگین نخواست چون ز طعامبر شکم سنگ بسته داشت مدام
Since he did not want a heavy stomach from food
He always kept a stone tied to his belly
نه که او بود کان نقد وجودکان بی سنگ چون تواند بود
Not that he was the mine of the coin of existence
How can a mine be without stone?
شرح خلقش که خلق از آن عاجزکی کما ینبغی توان هرگز
The description of his character, which creation is incapable of
When can it ever be done as it deserves?
محمدت چون بلانهایه ز حقیافت شد نام او ازان مشتق
Since praiseworthiness from the Truth is without end
His name was derived from that
می نماید به چشم عقل سلیمحرف هایش عیان میان دو میم
It appears to the eye of the sound intellect
His letters manifest between two Mims
چون رخ حور کز کناره آنگشته پیدا دو گوشواره آن
Like the face of a Houri, from whose sides
Two of its earrings have become visible
یا دو حلقه ز عنبرین مویشآشکار از دو جانب رویش
Or two ringlets of his ambergris-scented hair
Apparent from the two sides of his face
دال آن کز همه فرود نشستدل بنازش گرفته بر سر دست
Its 'Dal', which sits lower than all
The heart has taken it playfully upon its hand
آمد «الحمد» اول قرآنپس «الف لام میم » از پی آن
'Al-Hamd' came at the beginning of the Quran
Then 'Alif Lam Mim' followed it
یعنی الحمد را بخوان اولساز الف لام از و به میم بدل
Meaning, read 'Al-Hamd' first
Change its 'Alif Lam' into 'Mim'
تا که حاصل شود بدین تبدیلنام او در بدایت تنزیل
So that through this transformation is obtained
His name at the beginning of the Revelation
چون شد این نام آن خجسته اثرمی دهد ذلک الکتاب خبر
When this name became that auspicious sign
'Dhalika al-Kitab' gives the news
که مسمای اوست فی الواقعمظهر کل و نسخه جامع
That its named one is, in reality
The manifestation of the whole and the comprehensive copy
ثبت در وی به لون بی لونیکلمات الهی و کونی
Recorded in him, with the color of colorlessness
The divine and cosmic words
جان او موج خیز علم و یقینسر لاریب فیه اینست این
His soul is the surging wave of knowledge and certainty
The secret of 'no doubt in it' is this, this
بود هم بحر مکرمت هم کانگوهرش کان خلقه القرآن
He was both the sea and the mine of generosity
His jewel was that 'his character was the Quran'
قم فانذر حدیث قامت اوقاستقم شرح استقامت او
'Arise and warn' is the tale of his stature
'So remain steadfast' is the description of his steadfastness
صبح رویش ز والضحی اوضحمنشرح صدرش از الم نشرح
The morning of his face is clearer than 'By the morning brightness'
His breast expanded by 'Did We not expand'
کحل ما زاغ سرمه بصرشما طغی وصف پاکی نظرش
The kohl of 'the eye did not swerve' is the eyeliner of his vision
'Nor did it transgress' is the description of the purity of his sight
پایه ارتقاش ثم دناذروه اعتلاش او ادنی
The step of his ascent is 'Then he approached'
The pinnacle of his elevation is 'or closer'
جعبه تیر ما رمیت کفشچشم تنگ سیه دلان هدفش
The quiver of arrows of 'you did not throw' is his hand
The narrow eyes of the black-hearted are his target
رانده بالا ز همت والارخش اسری بعبده لیلا
Driven upwards by his lofty aspiration
The steed of 'He took His servant by night'
وصف خلق کسی که قرآن استخلق را نعت او چه امکان است
The description of the character of one who is the Quran
How is it possible for creation to praise him?
لاجرم معترف به عجز و قصورمی فرستم تحیتی از دور
Inevitably, confessing to inability and shortcoming
I send a greeting from afar
لست اهدی سوی الصلاة الیهیا مفیض الوجود صل علیه
I offer nothing but prayers to him
O Emanator of Existence, send blessings upon him
و علی اله و اصحابهوارثی علمه و آدابه
And upon his family and companions
The inheritors of his knowledge and manners
