بخش ۵ - الحكایة و التمثیل / Section 5 - The Tale and the Parable

متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

چون ز لیلی گشت مجنون بی قرار	روز و شب در شهر میگردید خوار
When Majnun became restless from Layla, He wandered the city day and night in wretchedness.
گفت لیلی را کسی کان خیره مرد	جمله گرد شهر میگردد بدرد
Someone said to Layla, 'That bewildered man, Wanders all around the city in pain.'
گفت اگر در عشق باشد استوار	یک دمش با شهر گردیدن چکار
She said, 'If he is steadfast in love, What business does he have wandering the city for even a moment?'
بعدازان شد سر بصحرا در نهاد	پای ناکامی بسودا در نهاد
After that, he set his head toward the desert, He set the foot of frustration into melancholy.
گشت میکردی بصحرا ژاله بار	از سرشکش گشته صحرا لاله زار
He wandered the desert raining hail, From his tears, the desert became a tulip field.
گفت لیلی هست او در عشق سست	نیست صحرا گشتن از عاشق درست
Layla said, 'He is weak in love, Wandering the desert is not proper for a lover.'
بعدازان در ناتوانی اوفتاد	مردن او را زندگانی اوفتاد
After that, he fell into weakness, Dying became his living.
بودش از بی طاقتی بیم هلاک	زار میخفتی میان خار و خاک
He had the fear of perishing from lack of endurance, He slept miserably amidst thorns and dust.
گفت لیلی نیست او در عشق زار	یک نفس با خواب عاشق را چه کار
Layla said, 'He is not miserable in love, What business does a lover have with sleep for a single breath?'
بعدازان شد عشق لیلی غالبش	گم شد از مطلوب جان طالبش
After that, Layla's love overcame him, His seeker soul became lost from the sought.
یکدمش فریاد واویلی نماند	از قدم تا فرق جز لیلی نماند
Not a single moment of crying 'woe is me' remained for him, From head to toe, nothing but Layla remained.
تن فرو داد و چنان در کار شد	کز وجود خویشتن بیزار شد
He surrendered his body and became so engrossed in the task, That he became disgusted with his own existence.
دل ز دستش رفت و در خون محو گشت	جمله لیلی ماند مجنون محو گشت
His heart slipped from his hands and vanished in blood, Only Layla remained completely, Majnun vanished.
گر همی بودیش میل صد طعام	خواندی آن جمله لیلی را بنام
If he had a desire for a hundred foods, He would call all of them by Layla's name.
از زفانش البته هرگز یکدمی	نامدی بیرون به جز لیلی همی
From his tongue, of course, not for a single moment, Would anything come out except 'Layla'.
در نمازش ای عجب بی عمد او	ذکر لیلی آمدی الحمد او
In his prayer, oh wonder, without his intention, The mention of Layla would become his 'Al-Hamd' (praise).
در تشهد در رکوع و در سجود	نام لیلی بودی او را در وجود
In testifying, in bowing, and in prostration, The name of Layla was in his existence.
گر نشستی هیچ و گر برخاستی	زو همه لیلی و لیلی خواستی
If he sat down or if he stood up, He wanted nothing but Layla and Layla.
این خبر گفتند با لیلی مگر	گفت اکنون عشقش آمد کارگر
This news, perhaps, they told Layla, She said, 'Now his love has become effective.'
تا که در گنجید چیزی دیگرش	می نیامد عشق لیلی در خورش
As long as something else fit inside him, The love of Layla was not worthy of him.
چون کنون برخاست اوکلی ز دست	عشق من کلی بجای او نشست
Since now he has completely lost himself, My love has completely sat in his place.
گنجدی در عشق اگر درگنجدی	عاشق این جاسنجدی کم سنجدی
If one could fit in love, if one could fit, The lover here would be a deficient weigher.
تا بود یک ذره از هستی بجای	کفر باشد گر نهی در عشق پای
As long as one atom of existence remains in place, It would be infidelity if you step into love.
عشق در خود محو خواهد هر که هست	ورنه نتوان برد سوی عشق دست
Love desires everyone who exists to be effaced in it, Otherwise, one cannot reach a hand toward love.
هرکه انگشتی برد آنجایگاه	همچو انگشتی بسوزد پیش راه
Whoever extends a finger there, Like a finger, burns before the path.
عشق از فانی توان آموختن	فانی آنجا کی تواند سوختن
Love can be learned from the annihilated one, How can the annihilated one burn there?
گر تو پیش عشق فانی میروی	غرق آب زندگانی میروی
If you go annihilated before love, You will go drowned in the water of life.
ور ز هستی میبری یک ذره تو	تا ابد زان ذره مانی غره تو
And if you bring one atom of existence, For eternity, you will remain deceived by that atom.
تا بود یک ذره هستی در میان	برکناری از صفای صوفیان
As long as one atom of existence is in between, You are aside from the purity of the Sufis.
صوفئی نتوان بکسب اندوختن	در ازل آن خرقه باید دوختن
Sufism cannot be amassed by earning, That cloak must have been sewn in eternity.
