(۵) حکایت سؤال کردن آن مرد دیوانه از کار حق تعالی / (5) The Tale of the Madman Questioning the Work of God Almighty

متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

یکی پرسید ازان دیوانه ساریکه ای دیوانه حق را چیست کاری
Someone asked that crazy-minded one,
'O madman, what is the work of God?'
چنین گفت او که لوح کودکان رااگر دیدی چنان می دان جهان را
He replied, 'If you have seen the tablet of children,
Know the world to be just like that.
که گاه آن لوح بنگارد ز آغازگهی آن نقش کلی بسترد باز
At times he writes on that tablet from the beginning,
And at times he wipes away that entire design again.
درین اشغال باشد روزگاریبجز اثبات و محوش نیست کاری
He remains busy in these occupations for a lifetime,
He has no work other than writing and erasing.
فغان از خلق و فریاد از زمانهنفیر از نقش لوح کودکانه
Alas for creation, and a cry against the times,
Lamentation over the design on the childish tablet!
نگاری کان زنان بر دست دارنداگرچه زان نکوئی چون نگارند
The henna design that women have on their hands,
Even though they draw beauty from it,
دل آن بهتر کزان دربند نبودکه آن هم بیش روزی چند نبود
It is better that the heart is not bound by it,
For that too does not last more than a few days.
نگاری کان نخواهد ماند بر جاینه بر دستست زیبنده نه بر پای
A design that will not remain in place
Is beautiful neither on the hand nor on the foot.
نگاری کان بسان درهم آیدچو زهر جانست جان زو پر غم آید
A design that becomes distorted and ruined
Is like the poison of life, making the soul full of grief.
اگرچه ذوق دنیا بی شمارستولیکن در بقا چون آن نگارست
Even though the pleasures of this world are countless,
Yet in terms of permanence, they are like that henna design.
سر مردان عالم مصطفی بودببین تا در ره دنیا کجا بود
The leader of the men of the world was Mustafa,
See where he stood on the path of this world.
چو اندر ملک درویشی سرافراختقبای مسکنت را در بر انداخت
When he elevated his head in the kingdom of dervishhood,
He cast the cloak of humility over himself.
طعام جوع را صد خوان بگستردبملک فقر شادروان بگسترد
He spread a hundred tables of the food of hunger,
He laid out a canopy in the kingdom of poverty.
چنان بر ملک دنیا خاک انداختکه رخت از خاک بر افلاک انداخت
He threw dust on the kingdom of this world in such a way,
That he moved his baggage from the dust to the heavens.
کمال ملک درویشی چنان داشتکه آن طاقت ندانم تا توان داشت
He held the perfection of the kingdom of dervishhood in such a way,
That I know not who would have the strength to bear it.'
