تو دریا بین اگر چشم تو بیناستکه عالم نیست عالم کفک دریاست
See the ocean if your eye is seeing,
For the world is not the world, it is the foam of the ocean.
خیالست این همه عالم بیندیشمبین آخر خیالی را از این پیش
All this world is an illusion, reflect on it;
Do not consider an illusion as more than this any longer.
تو یا دیوانه یا آشفته باشیکه چندین در خیالی خفته باشی
You must be either mad or bewildered,
To have slept so long in an illusion.
تو چو مردان بازی خیالیشده بالغ چو طفلی در جوالی
You, like men, are playing with illusions;
Having become an adult, like a child in a sack.
پری در شیشه دین کار طفل استکه بالغ بی خیال علو و سفل است
Seeing a fairy in a glass is the work of a child,
For an adult is without the illusion of high and low.
هلا بشنو ز اوج عرش اسرارکه نیست ای خواجه اندر دار دیار
Hey, listen to the secrets from the zenith of the throne:
There is no one in the dwelling, O master.
هر آن حرفی که دیدی هیچ آمدولی در چشم تو پر پیچ آمد
Every letter that you saw amounted to nothing,
Yet in your eyes it appeared full of twists and turns.
همین حرفی که آن پیچی نداردالف بود و الف هیچی ندارد
This very letter that has no twists,
Was Alif, and Alif has nothing in it.
چه خوانی ابجد این کار چندینکه ابجد راست الف حرف نخستین
Why do you read the alphabet (abjad) of this affair so much,
When Alif is the first letter of the alphabet?
الف هیچی ز اول آخرش لاز ابجد تا ضظغلا لا و سودا
Alif is nothing from the beginning, its end is La (no/nothing),
From Abjad to Dhad, Zha, Ghayn, Lam, Alif is 'no' and madness.
اگر صد راه گیری ابجد از سرمیان هیچ و لایی مانده بر در
If you take the alphabet from the beginning a hundred times,
You remain at the door between 'nothing' and 'no'.
تو می گویی که مرد مرد رستمبرو کز رخش آید کار رستم
You say that you are a manly man, a Rustam;
Go, for the work of a Rustam comes from his Rakhsh (his steed).
