مگر مردی ز مردان طلب کاربه گرد گور مردان گشت بسیار
It happened that a man among the seekers
Wandered much around the graves of the men of God.
شبی می گشت خوش خوش گرد خاکیبه گوش او رسید آواز پاکی
One night, he was happily wandering around some dust,
When a pure voice reached his ear:
که تا کی گور مردان را پرستی؟به گرد کار مردان گرد و رستی
'How long will you worship the graves of men?
Revolve around the deeds of men, and you will be saved.
تو در بیچارگی اول قدم نهوزان پس سر سوی خوان کرم نه
First, take a step in helplessness,
And then lay your head toward the table of generosity.'
چو آن خوان کرم را برکشیدندگنه کاران عاصی در رسیدند
When they spread out that table of generosity,
The disobedient sinners arrived.
چو خوان را پیش علیون نهادندسر دربان ز در بیرون نهادند
When they placed the table before the Exalted Ones,
They removed the gatekeeper from the door.
چو دروان را ز در بیرون نهاده ستهر آن کس را که باید در گشاده ست
Since the gatekeeper has been removed from the door,
The door is open for everyone who is in need.
اگر تو بی گناهی گر گنه کاربه خوان بنشین که سلطان می دهد بار
Whether you are sinless or a sinner,
Sit at the table, for the Sultan is granting an audience.
چون آن خوان کرم گسترده آمدهمه کردار بد ناکرده آمد
When that table of generosity was spread,
All bad deeds became as if undone.
مشو ای عاصی بیچاره نومیدکه چون پیدا شود اشراق خورشید
Do not despair, O helpless sinner,
For when the radiance of the sun appears,
اگر افتد به قصر پادشاییهم افتد نیز بر کنج گدایی
If it falls upon a king's palace,
It also falls upon a beggar's corner.
کسی کاو برهنه است امروز در راهدر او به تابد آن خورشید درگاه
He who is naked today on the path,
The sun of the court shines upon him better.
چو کار مخلصان آمد خطرناکگنهکاران برند این گوی چالاک
Since the work of the sincere ones is fraught with danger,
The sinners swiftly carry away this ball.
نبیند مرد خودبین پادشا راانین المذنبین باید خدا را
The self-conceited man does not see the King;
God requires the moaning of the sinners.
درین ره نیست خودبینی خجستهتنی لاغر دلی باید بخسته
On this path, self-conceit is not auspicious;
One needs a lean body and a wounded heart.
