سرای خود به غارت داد شاهیدرافتادند غارت را سپاهی
A king gave his palace up for plunder,
An army fell upon the plunder.
غلامی پیش شاه ایستاد بر پایدر آن غارت نمی جنبید از جای
A servant stood on his feet before the king,
In that plunder, he did not move from his place.
یکی گفتش که غارت کن زمانیکه گر سودی بود نبود زیانی
Someone said to him, 'Plunder for a while,
For if there is a profit, there will be no loss.'
بخندید او که این بر من حرامستکه روی شاه سود من تمامست
He laughed, saying, 'This is forbidden to me,
For the face of the king is my entire profit.
مرا در روی شه کردن نگاهیبسی خوش تر که از مه تا به ماهی
For me, looking at the king's face,
Is much more pleasant than from the moon to the fish.'
دل شه گشت خرم زان یگانهجواهر خواست حالی از خزانه
The king's heart became joyful from that unique one,
He immediately requested jewels from the treasury.
بسی جوهر به اعزاز و نکو داشتبدست خویشتن در پیش او داشت
He held many jewels with honor and goodness,
In his own hand before him.
که برگیر آنچ می خواهی ترا بادکه کردی ای گرامی جان من شاد
Saying, 'Take what you desire, let it be yours,
For you have made my soul happy, O dear one.'
غلامش دست خود بگشاد از همسرانگشت شه بگرفت محکم
His servant opened his hand,
And tightly grasped the king's fingertips.
که ما را کار با این اوفتادستچه جوهر چه خزانه جمله بادست
Saying, 'My business has fallen with this,
What are jewels? What is the treasury? All is wind!
چو تو هستی مرا دیگر همه هستهمه دستم دهد چون تو دهی دست
Since I have you, I have everything else,
Everything gives me a hand, when you give a hand.
همی هرگز مباد آن روز را نورکه من از تو بدون تو شوم دور
May that day never have light,
When I become distant from you, without you.
چو جانان آمد از جان کم نیایدهمه این جوی تو کان کم نیاید
When the beloved arrives, the soul is not lacking,
Seek only this, for that mine is never lacking.
دو گیتی را نجوید هر که مردستیکی را جوید او کین هر دو گردست
Whoever is a (true) man does not seek both worlds,
He seeks the One, for these two are but dust.
چو هر لذت که در هر دو جهان هستترا در حضرت او بیش از آن هست
Since every pleasure that is in both worlds,
Is for you in His presence even more than that.
چرا پس ترک دو جهان می نگیریچو مشتاقان پی آن می نگیری
Why then do you not abandon the two worlds?
Why do you not follow Him like the yearning ones?
یکی را خواه تا در ره نمانیفلک رو باش تا در چه نمانی
Desire the One, so you do not remain stranded on the path,
Be sky-bound, so you do not remain in the well.
شواغل دور کن مشغول او شوچو خود را گم کنی در حق فروشو
Cast away distractions and be occupied with Him,
When you lose yourself, immerse yourself in the Truth.
اگر از دیدهٔ خود دور افتیهمی در عالم پرنور افتی
If you fall away from your own sight (ego),
You will fall into a luminous world.
بهشت آدم به دو گندم بدادستتو هم بفروش اگر کارت فتادست
Adam gave away Paradise for two grains of wheat,
You too sell it, if your task is underway.
نه سید گفت بعضی را به تدبیرسوی جنت کشند آنگه به زنجیر
Did the Master not say that some, by contrivance,
Are dragged to Paradise in chains?
اگر جان را بخواهد بود دیدارچه باشی هشت جنت را خریدار
If the soul is destined to have the Vision,
Why would you be a buyer of the eight Paradises?'
