حکایت شیر و نخچیران / The Tale of the Lion and the Beasts

The Tale of the Lion and the Beasts (حکایت شیر و نخچیران در وادی مرغزار) is a major allegorical story in Book One of Rumi's Masnavi, beginning at Section 42. The narrative establishes the framework for a profound, multi-section theological debate: the prey animals advocate for absolute trust and passive submission to divine destiny (Tawakkul), while the lion defends the necessity of purposeful effort and exertion (Jahd) as the proper application of God-given means.
