Original content

English translation

You have a basket full of bread upon the crown of your head, yet you go from door to door begging for a crust of bread. Turn back into your own head, leave off headstrongness; go knock at the door of the heart, why are you at every door? You are up to your knees in the water of the stream, yet heedless of yourself, you ask this one and that for water. Water is before you and behind you with auxiliary force, but there is a barrier before and a barrier behind your eyes. The horse is beneath your thigh, yet you, the rider, seek a horse, asking 'What is this?' They say 'A horse,' but you say 'But where is the horse?' 'Look, is this not a horse clearly visible beneath you?' He said, 'Yes, but who has ever seen a horse?' He is intoxicated with water, and it is right in front of his face, in the water, yet unaware of the running water. Like a pearl in the ocean saying, 'Where is the ocean?' while its shell-like imagination is its wall of obstruction. His asking, 'Where is it?' becomes his veil; the cloud becomes the block to the sun's brilliance. His own evil eye is the blindfold on his eye; the very thing meant to remove his barrier has become his barrier. His worldly intellect has become the lock on his ear; keep your consciousness with God, O you who are bewildered by Him!
